trunk/boot pull down/releaese works when key or cars button is pressed,but....
My trunk will only open when i use the key manually. When i use the remote(button on key or in car) the trunk tries to open, the pull down motor operates and trunk opens or closes but only about 3/4 of an inch(seems like the latch is not releasing). I imagine it is an alignment issue but not sure, any ideas or suggestions? car is a 2004 xjr and the problem started out intermittently but now is all the time.

Hi there.
Had a similar problem on my X-Type and also my current XJ6. The cure for me was to adjust the two rubber 'springs' which are attached to the underside of the boot (trunk) lid. They can be turned to either make them protrude more or less from the boot lid so try giving them a half turn anti-clockwise - this will hopefully make the boot lid pop up further when you unlock it, freeing it from the catch. If not, try another quarter turn at a time until it works.
Good luck!

I had a problem with bootlid release. It got worse and worse, until eventually when I had to lift the lid whilst pressing the release button, and then hold the lid open, that I realised what the fault was. It was obvious that one of the gas struts had failed. New gas struts solved my problem at least. There was noticeable oil seepage from one strut, the other appeared OK, but I replaced the pair so I got a two year warranty from the supplier. They are non-Jaguar struts and cost £15 each.

i tried the suggestions and no-go.Thanks again, peterjameswass and fraser mitchell. jagfan i think you are right, that the problem lies in the electronic trunk release assembly, before i buy the whole assembly i will remove it and see if i can repair, rebuild, or replace the broken or worn part. from what i saw on sunday it seems to be riveted/stamped together, however, i did not remove it completely. i will try remove it later this week. and post what i find.
