Default help naming a bolt

I'm sorry to ask but I have been under the car looking for the source of a rattle. I assume some bush has gone but they all look good apart from this one.

So what's the blue bolt called please?

Also should the washers be loose on that bolt? There are large metal washers each side of the bush and you can spin them by finger. That can't be right surely?

Sorry to ask a dumb question which is probably answered elsewhere if only I know what to search for.

Mike

I also have a rattle in my rear end that I haven't been able to track down. I also noticed that I can spin those washers in my car. I think those are the pendulum bush bolts?

the lower control arm pivot and yes it’s normal

most of the rattles come from the shock bushings and the donut

Thank you.

Having looked more than once I (and the local garage) cannot identify any particularly worn bushes so I suppose it's a case of live with it or just keep changing bushes as I have done the lower shock bushing which were awful.

Perhaps the upper spring mount donut as xalty suggests? They're not really visible in situ.

Unfortunately you won't know until you have it in pieces. Is the rear ride height on the low side?

Rothwell did a brilliant how-to in his rolling thread:

The fronts are much easier, but, in Jaguar parlance, the 'rear spring isolators' aren't madly expensive (MMD3565AA).

Which are new in my car. When I replaced the shocks and the donut, the rear end rattle persisted.

The ride height is spot on but of course you can't tell what's going on without looking and if you look you may just as well renew.

Actually I am pretty confident I can do the job and I don't fear spring compressors, I have used them before with respect. I just don't want all that work for no purpose and I want warmer weather!

Looking again at rothwell's pictures, it seems you can see the bottom of the isolator, so you might be able to make an assessment. TBH, I didn't take too much notice as I was replacing the shocks so things had to come apart.

I guess you've done all the roll bar rubber bits & drop links?

Yep I have done all the roll bar bits which needed doing. I bought cheap and regretted it as some of the rubbers needed changing after a year.

If the ride height's spot on I suspect I'd be unlucky if the isolators are shot but I may have to go down that path.

A kind thought - there was a forum member who lived in the next but one village (delightfully named Rock) who did the whole back end by removing the axle. He seems to have moved on though; either car or home. Otherwise I'd be knocking on his door. Can't now recall his name.

There's also the guy who races his XKR up the local hill climb at Shelsley, I met him in the pits frantically rubbing out some light scratches where he'd met some vegetation. I have looked for him at recent meets but he's not been there. I say 'his' XKR - it's actually his wife's daily drive.

The JTIS calls that Bolt the 'Wishbone inner Fulcrum Pin'. Interestingly, it says the Nut (on the other end) should be quite tight (77-to-103 Nm). I can't remember if this Nut is tightening against a Shoulder on the Bolt, but a loose washer just doesn't sound correct to me. If you check the torque is correct (The car has to be sitting on it's wheels when you do) then all is OK.

I put a torque wrench on it set at 100Nm and it clicked instantly but that might be 23 years of corrosion. There's not much point to a loose washer I'd have thought?

those are always seized they need an air hammer and a 3/4 impact to remove

the nylon washers spin that’s just how they are

Rather disappointingly nothing more exciting than Bolt.
