Default HELP: Octopus hose Norma connector question

Octopus hose - inlet side

Attention All XK8 old hands:

I'm replacing the Octopus hose. A metal pipe from the engine sends hot water to the heater by mating with an enormous Norma connector (metal pipe on the left; black plastic part with a green ring on the right the Norma).

My question is how do you lock the pipe on the Norma? After inserting the pipe into the Norma up to the white marking on the pipe, how do I "lock up" the pipe securely in the Norma without any leaks?

Your early advice would be greatly appreciated.

it does not lock. it is merely a friction grip with the o-ring as a seal. it is designed that any tensile force makes the grip stronger, rather cool design.

I recall a collar that slides forward towards the metal pipe once the connector is in place (after the green ring is removed) like this:

There should be a raised ring formed in the metal pipe that the tangs on the connector 'hook' over:- but I don't see one in your pic? It's clear in the first post in GordoGatCar's thread above.

+1. The metal pipe should have a raised ring, the internal groove in the connector locks onto it.

Default Defective heater pipe supplied

Thank you Gents for your replies.

After reading up this subject all over this forum, I have to conclude that the heater pipe NCA3905BB which I ordered from SNG Barratt UK is defective because it did not have a ridge to allow the Norma to grip tightly.

I have to resort to just inserting the Norma into the pipe as far as possible and then applying a large amount of heat-resistant cement around the joint to hold the Norma in place. Will let the cement dry overnight before firing her up to find if there is a leak. Wish me luck.

The Norma should grip a raised ridge on the pipe and locking it in place. The pipe I ordered is defective because it did not have that ridge.

it could be a latter car change. mine has the original core and there was no ridge when i replaced the hose. has not leaked yet. might not want to cement the hose in place.

You may have a very good point because I've read so many posts asking how to free that Norma when replacing the Octopus hose. Dispensing with the ridge on the pipe will surely allow easier Norma disengagement.
