Default HELP! XK8 won't start! RESOLVED

Hey all, I'm having a problem.

Wife's 2000 XK8 has been having battery issues (it may be the original battery), it has been losing its charge when sitting so I have put a charger on it a couple times. Last time I tried to charge it it wouldn't take a charge.

Fast forward to today... I tried jumping the car and only got a loud click under the hood (multiple attempts same result). My next is going to be pull the battery out of my truck and try that but in the mean time I thought I would run this by all of you. Any help would be greatly appreciated (remember.....when momma is happy EVERYONE is happy).

Thanks in advance.

Jim

OK.... Believe it or not I'm really not that big of dumbass, I put my truck battery in the car and it fired right up, I can't remember ever NOT being able to jumpstart a vehicle but the kitty wasn't cooperating so I started thinking something else might be going on, hence my post....... Go figure.

That will be in a couple weeks, right now I wanted to start it and be able to move it out and back into the garage. The thing that bothers me is it won't even jump, just a loud single click.

Yup..... thanks guys. Funny thing is I have always gotten a car to jump start (even if I had to unhook the cables from the batt and jump straight to the batt cables) guess cats are just a little more finicky.

I think they need to let you know, from time to time, who is the master and who is the slave!

Is the engine turning over or is the starter engaging but not turning the engine?

I may be confused, but I think you wrote that you put in the truck battery and it started, but with jumper cables just a click.

That's just a bad cable connection unless you're getting a serious arc when you connect the cables indicating a shorted battery taking all the current.

If so, disconnect the negative cable at the battery and connect the jumper to it. If it starts don't re-connect the neg. to the battery again with the engine running- you may damage the alternator or ECU.

To jump a dead battery in a Jag you will need a professional charger, much easier to get a battery and no chance of damaging the fragile electrical components.
