Default High (main) beam indicator

Last night I noticed that that the dash indicator light for the high (main) beam headlights has stopped working. This does not particularly worry me since its very obvious when the high beams are lit ; but I wonder if the bulb for the high beams might also illuminate some other , more important, warnings.

Does anybody have any insight on this ?

(I have a PDF shop manual and it was not obvious to me from there)

My experience in replacing these dashboard bulbs is that they seem to illuminate only one gauge/warning/signal. I doubt if your high-beam indicator bulb serves any other function than that....

The 8 replaceable bulbs in the Instrument Pack only illuminate the gauges.

The warning lamps within the gauges must be part of the board and only visible when you dig deeper than this.

Barry,

Here's an idea. I looks like all the illumination uses the same bulb. If true, you could steal the bulb from the "headlights on" indicator and use it for your high beams.

I mentioned this because my headlights on bulb burned out years ago. Don't miss it one bit. In fact I'd never replace it, that indicator was bright and can't be dimmed as I recall. Used to annoy me. One or two others have done the same thing, so I wanted to bounce the idea off you.

LoL I actually have a small square of black tape stuck on over the "headlights on" indicator because it used to annoy the hell out of me . Bulbs are available at the local auto parts store for less than $1cdn each, but it's just too much of a pain to remove the dash to change one bulb

LOL, i thought that i was the only one with the black tape over what they call the "telltale." seems like all modern cars have this. it can cause you to lose your night vision, especially on dark roads. could never understand why people want to make their dash lights brighter for this reason, when i find myself turning them down.

Not the case with my ‘02 dash lighting. After replacing the 8 bulbs this past weekend I ended up without the high beam indicator, due to me improperly seating the bulb holder. The high beam indicator uses the small bulb 2nd from left (with the back of the gauge module facing you). After some digging through the manual I found this illustration:

Well I think you are barking up the wrong tree here. Min is a 97. The cluster has been out a few times and only the rear white plastic case has been removed. (not the circuit board). The last time it was out to change all the bulbs ( two different types) this item fell out . The main beam has never worked .....
PS to judge from the pins you would have to fit from the innermost side of the circuit board..???

Is it a bulb? is it a LED ? No its superman

Clearly the illustration I posted from the 1999+Jaguar shop manual shows the high beam (indicator) bulb removal from the outside of the module case. Many things are updated, ie changed, from the earlier years

the early cars, such as your ‘97 are not the same as my ‘02. Not barking up the wrong tree, just a different one .
