high mileage xkr.
I'm thinking about a 2001 XKR I have been offered; looks great, runs great, full Jag dealer history, just had chains / tensioners done by main dealer; but the mileage is 134,000. It's an ok price, but I'm just a little concerned at that mileage. Anybody got any thoughts based on experience of these cars?

I have always felt that how a car has been driven and maintained is more important than how many miles it has.
A gently driven, high mileage car that has been well maintained is likely to be more dependable than a ragged out one that was not properly maintained.
A lot of old grannies are still driving around in their 1976 Buick Lesabres.

The fact that the tensioners were just done at 134,000 miles makes me a little leary about service history. The tensioner problem is so well known that if there was a full history at a dealer or Jag indie, someone surely would have mentioned it prior to 134K. Obviously, the other big ticket item besides the engine is the transmission and the myriad of electronic components that control the tranny. The supercharger may also need to be looked at unless there is a history showing replacement or rebuild. The engine is highly reliable for more mileage if it has been give care along the way. Again waiting to 134K to do the tensioners leads me to believe there were other shortcuts in servicing along the way.

Offered? Hobby car? So many variables. No worse repairs than any other car that age/milage, and from what I read, much better than similar German high performance cars. I would take it knowing that some things have to be done, and if you can do most of them yourself, then the cost isn't that bad. I would be more concerned with the body condition; rot is alot more difficult and expensive to fix than a water pump. If the basics (compression, etc,) check out okay, then you're in for some fun rides.

Frozennorth does not say at what price the car is offered.
I brought my X308 on body/interior condition and the big seller was the service history carried out by a Jag Dealership.Chains and tensioners blah blah blah...all pure fiction.
The receipts prove this dealer stole money from the owners of the car (read $380 for parts/spark plugs only, without fitting charge)
Brought from "reputable"car dealer and when I got there some 700K from home the Jag engine was warm.No wonder..he knew the horrible and expensive sound of timing chains when the engine is cold.Receipts totalled $12,000 spent recently. No wonder the owners traded it. In short Service History is not worth **** if it's true!
