How is the third brake light attached to the rear glass on XK8 Coupe. I see what appear to be mounting clips on the rear glass but cant attach the light assembly to those clips. Any thoughts would be helpful.
I'm kinda curious about this too. A previous owner took mine out the hard way I guess and broke it, then shoved a wedge of wood under it lol. One of the things I keep meaning to look into
Bob,
Thanks for the TSB. I believe the mounting tabs are still on my rear glass but not sure how the light assembly attaches to the tabs. I will try and provide photo for clarification.
I thought it was going to be the same as the X300/X308 with a stoplamp unit having slots that just slides onto two metal brackets bonded to the glass but the XK8 looks to be an even more fragile plastic assembly:
My brackets were gone when I got the coupe, and the HMSL just wanted to slide around. It was also pretty well trashed by sun damage. I removed it, rebuilt it as best I could, and covered it with leather left over from my arm rest recover. I replaced the lights ( bad) with lights from an X-type ( lots in the pick and pull, and the connector is a match). Re-installed in the rear, using a couple of velcro strips on the bottom to keep it from sliding around. The velcro seems to be working well.
I am going to be having to figure out a good way to do this myself I think.
I am getting ready to upgrade the rear subwoofer to something that is audibly noticeable, but the current sub was already capable of rattling the broken third light enough to be annoying.

This is the Coupe section from JTIS.

A somewhat old thread, but I hope someone is monitoring. I am having trouble removing the High Mounted Stoplamp trim panel. I see that Step 1 of the JTIS simply says "Remove the high mounted stoplamp trim panel". Sorry, but I need a little more information. I can move the trim panel up and down, and I can twist it, but I can not "remove" it. I am obviously missing something. Help?
