Why did rpm go way high after the reset and how do I adjust it down? I did a reset after xinstall of rebuilt T B[/I]

Nothing much in JTIS about this in the earlier/4.0 models, but for the 4.2 engines, the following is recommended

Connect the battery ground cable.Tighten to 4 Nm.Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.Cycle both door drop glasses up and down to establish the upper and lower datum points.Lower the glass to the stop and hold the switch in the DOWN position for a further five seconds.Raise the glass fully and hold the switch in the UP position for a further five seconds.Start the engine and allow to idle until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.Switch the engine off.Start the engine and allow to idle for approximately two minutes (this will allow the ECM to learn the idle values).Apply and hold the brake pedal, select drive and allow the engine to idle for a further two minutes.Drive the vehicle for approximately five miles/eight kilometers of varied driving to enable the ECM to complete its learning strategy.Reset the audio unit, clock and climate control assembly to original settings to avoid customer complaint.

Just read a similar thread.

Did you just do the TB?
Then the reset immediately following?
Did the car ever idle correctly after changing the TB?

The thread described loosening something on the side of the TB and manually calibrating it.
I may be wrong about all this because I have no direct knowledge. Hopefully someone recalls what I'm talking about.

After a hard reset the RPM’s will go up on the first start but should settle down to normal 650RPM. If you had changed the throttle body you may need to readjust the throttle position sensor or check your wiring.

A hard reset clears all the learned (PCM) values so it has to figure how to control things to get to the idle it would like. It tries not to run lean and not to cut out so rich and a bit fast is to be expected. Give it 5-10 mins and see if it drops revs.

Good news.

It has to learn the minute behaviour of each injector, trusts the O2s to see what's happening, with help from MAP etc, then what the various other vacuum-changing things do exactly (purge valve, EGR, a/c, etc) at various speeds (engine loads) and air temps (IAT).
