I try not to rev my engine too much for too long just in-case and my engine is only on 80k miles and change. Mine is the 4.2 so it shouldn't have as many problems with the timing chain I hope anyway. I just keep getting the oil changed every year well before 10k miles.
My 2006 XKR only has 86k miles on it and trying to keep the mileage low. Just my own obsession although I love driving it. I change engine oil yearly regardless of the low yearly mileage. Have only owned the car for 3 years because specifically wanted a 2006 X-100 model as in my opinion they are prettier than the X-150, it also had to be an XKR. So it ended being a long search as there were only some 300 imported in the beginning of 2006 model year before introducing the the new models. I just hope mine lasts a long time but as I was mechanic who worked on Austin Healy, MG, and Jaguars in the late 1960's and early 1970 's. So any repairs on this would be no trouble.
My XK8 (2000) at a mere 127,500 at the moment and going beautifully! The Cat purred well at a recent track day!!..
I never go beyond 6K RPM and leave the gearbox to do the work, no manual shifting..G'box has first oil change at 125,000 when I got it...
Still gives an occaisional clunk in 1st or reverse.. So maybe changing the infamous g'box pressure valve may help?
Anyone with high miles tried this?
I believe the biggest challenges as these cars age are the cooling system (especially its plastic components), the transmission, the suspension, and the electronics. Gotta stay on top of the maintenance in all of these areas in order to keep these cars happy and healthy....
I just bought a 2002 XKR with 56,000 miles... no owners manual. Is there anything I should be doing right about now regarding service? How about the supercharger?
Hm. It seems from everything I read the Mercedes trans in my 2002 XKR are pretty indestructible. At this point I'm concerned about the belt tensioner... was the switchover from plastic to metal complete by 2002?

No it wasn’t . The change was made sometime during the 2002 model year (from what I read in this forum). You have to know your engine number to know if you have the latest version. My car, a 2002 XKR, did not have the latest version, as the previous owner rudely found out the hard way.
i don’t know the engine number where the newest tensioners were introduced.

You need to change the transmission fluid. You must use one of the MB approved fluids, it does make a negative difference if you use some other fluid.
also, change the supercharger snout oil and the rear end fluid.
As others have noted, with any engine, with regular oil changes and good maintenance, it will last! With 126K on our one owner 01 XK8 (purchased on Dec 31, 2000), engine still solid and still sounds great. Always have used synthetic oil. And use a KN air filter. Even though we don't drive it as much as we used to, we still do the regular maintenance. Still drives pretty close to new - changed out all suspension bushings, etc. about 5 years ago and only use really good brake parts and keep good tires on it. Also, about 4 years ago had the hydraulic fluid and pumps changed on the convertible top. While not anywhere near the least expensive cars to maintain, if you do, the XKs last. Next up on ours is a new convertible top and headliner - 24 years of age has taken its toll.
I'm not sure if I'm the highest or not but my 2010 XKR has now passed 215,000 miles, and still too good to think about changing. My 2002 XKR has about 175,000 miles on her, but I don't drive her anymore even though I still own it. The X150 is just so much better in every aspect that I don't enjoy driving the X100 in comparison. Having said that, I have never had a car receive as many compliments on its appearance as the X100 'vert. Everyone loves it. 215,000 miles 175,000 miles

owner neglect is =was a traditional problem with jags
My 97 XK8 has around 72500mi. I feel like it has most of the same issues you’d expect for a 28 year old car that only drives around 800mi a year these days.
Earlier this year, one of the tensioner pulleys disintegrated on me causing the belt to shred and a fun breakdown with loss of power steering etc. Ended up changing another pulley as well during the repair, but something to keep in mind as these things age.
