Default How to Adjust a Window that Bumps the A-Pillar FAQ

OK... first I need to give you a little background. My window used to rub against the molding on my A-pillar when I would close the door. I discovered that the window is supposed to remain down about 1/2 inch when the door is open to allow clearance around the A-pillar trim when you close the door. My window wouldn't stay down, and that was apparently because the door sensor microswitch was not working properly.

I tried to fix the microswitch, but that didn't work and Jaguar only sells a replacement with the entire latch assembly. That would cost $750. I decided I wasn't going to spend that much just to fix a minor little annoyance like the window problem. Oddly enough, after reassembling the door the window no longer rubbed the A-pillar molding. After a month or so, however, something happened in the door and the rubbing gradually got worse and worse. Eventually I couldn't even close the door without rolling the window down slightly first.

A couple of days ago I decided to open up the door panel to see if I could figure out how to adjust the maximum height of the window. The adjustment is very easy as shown in the video. I've driven the car since I made the video, and there is no wind noise other than a little bit from the junction between the two windows, and that was there even before I adjusted the window.

Anyway, here's the VIDEO

Oh crud... The title is supposed to be "How to adjust a window THAT bumps the A-pillar". I didn't proofread the title of the thread. I'd appreciate it if one of the mods could fix that.

Also, if you're not sure how to take off the door panel, here are the instructions for doing that: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=44719

"I tried to fix the microswitch, but that didn't work and Jaguar only sells a replacement with the entire latch assembly."

One could have had hope that after Ford bought Jaguar the company would have stopped screwing the customer in the typical European fashion. File that under "Hope & Change" that didn't have a prayer.

Someone somewhere has a detailed bill of materials for every dang system on these cars and if they were to publish them they would do mankind a great service. I'll bet a dollar to a doughnut the switch is available somewhere in the states and is a common component in a lot of applications.

You didn't happen to see any numbers on it did you?

I got the latch assembly out, but then I couldn't figure out how to get to the switch. It was buried back in the assembly and I just couldn't get to it. There's another thread, though, where someone explained how to get the switch out. I think they even got a number off of the switch, but it didn't match anything on mouser.com. And if it's available anywhere, mouser will have it.

This needs to be FAQ'd ......I believe there may be existing threads on this subject but a video will certainly be useful too.
Thanks
Jim

I-Right-I
If you get the door latch out getting to the microswitch is pretty easy. Here's a thread on how to get the door latch out of the door:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=38935

I previously searched and can't find anyone to find a OEM replacement for the switch, I did contact burgess and this is what they had to say:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...t=39469&page=3

Gus worked on another member's door latch and I believe he was able to make this switch work but I'm not 100% sure.

If you need more help please let me know.

Thanks Gearhead, I'm not having that problem...yet, but don't you know it's coming. Mostly I was just bitch'n about the cost of maintaining one of these beauties...and the frequency. I suppose I might have guessed that paying 20% on the dollar for 7 year old exotic might just have a downside.

I'll keep your links in my Jag folder with the rest of the how-to tips. Mucho grass for taking the time to post them.

The driver door window switch is brand new, it will not make passenger window or mirror move.
Passenger door switch works passenger window just fine.

Have you performed a window reset yet (shut the doors, hold both window switches in the window down position until you hear a faint click, then hold switches in the window up postion until you hear a faint click).

If it doesn't work disconnect the battery for 60 seconds and try it again.

If it still does not work, check your battery voltage with the car off, under about 12.25 or so means it is time for a new battery or a charge. Replace and charge the battery and repeat above.

If none of this works, your driver door electronic module (in the driver door) may be faulty. Try reseating the connectors and look for frayed wiring. Still no luck...it may need to be replaced or rebuilt.
