Hello trying to replace shifter plate on my car . Got down to only have to remove shifter knob . This is 100 anniversary car . There is a knob and a base with Xk on it with a small hole in back . Tried inserting small allen wrench but nothing seems to fix . No place to put a wrench to unlosen like on non 100 model . Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us. I have moved your post from the forum for the X308 sedans/saloons to the forum for the X100, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 2002 XKR 100.
The gear shift knob should simply come off the lever by rotating it counter-clockwise, but you may first need to loosen the cone nut, which threads onto the lever before the knob and serves as a jam nut to secure the knob from rotating during use.
If your cone nut has two opposing flats, you can simply use an open-ended wrench to turn the nut clockwise to loosen it from the knob. Then the knob should turn off counter-clockwise. Here's the parts diagram:
Hello Don , thank you for the info . Issue is my cone has know way to put a wrench on it . It’s supposed to be a 16mm but my cone it tapered smooth with xkr on it . There is a small hole on the back tried standard allen wrenches and they don’t work.

Reason: Removed mangled quotation.
It may take some force, but the knob should rotate counter-clockwise. The cone nut may want to follow the knob, so anything you can do to prevent it from turning may help. You could wrap an old leather belt around it to protect its surface, then use pliers or Vise Grips/Mole Grips to help restrain it from rotating as you turn the knob off.
Boster, did you find a solution?
I have the same problem because I also have a 2002 XKR 100. When a repair person recently cracked my shift plate, now I need to find a way to remove the knob. I have not tried the scary vise grip solution mentioned above. From the looks of it, the hole on the front is for a pin that is in some sort of special Jag tool. I t may be a hole for a drift pin that locks the nut to the shaft, but I sure hope not.
