Default Hub Nut 2001 XK8

Hi fellow members.
I'm new to this type of forum. I'm trying to pull the hubs off the front of my Jaguar to replace the bearings but the road block I have hit is the hub nut is splined looks more like a gear. How do I remove it ?

You need a special socket.

I am getting ready to do wheel bearing to, and just ordered the socket off ebay for $120. Pricey for a tool, but the dealer wanted close to $500 to do the job.

There was talk on the forum about have one as a loaner for different members to borrow, but I don't think that ever happened.

Is there a fellow member that has a 2001 Jaguar front wheel hub nut socket for sale or rent ?

Here's some older info I don't know if it is still valid;

Another option might be to take the spindle / hub assembly off the car , and take that to the Jag dealer and just pay them for the labor to remove the nut, press in the new bearing, and put the nut back on. If you had a dealer willing to work with you like that, that might save a lot of the cost. You will also need access to a press anyway.

I removed the ABS nut from my 97 XK8 with a 2 1/4 inch 12 tooth socket. I did however, have to leverage the wrench with a 5 foot long pipe and it was still very difficult to break loose. I also took the entire spindle off and stabilized it in a vise.

Beware of the tools that only have a 1/2inch socket, I easily sheared off my 1/2 inch breaker bar.

The original tool had a 3/4 inch socket, so if you have a 1/2 inch one, weld in a 1/2 to 3/4 adapter and get hold of a 3/4 inch breaker bar.

Thanks. I used tractor sockets that belong to my wife's dad. I believe that monster must be a 1 inch. I can't imagine that a 1/2 inch would do it without breaking.
