Default I am making progress on my XKR..

...I have replaced both fuel pumps, repaired the broken passenger seat and fixed the "hood not shut" problem. Somehow I also got rid of the "restricted performance" message. Now I "only" have to determine the cause of the "drivetrain error" message and find and repair an oil leak on the drivers side of the engine. I did find the access to check the transmission fluid while I was removing the drivers side valve cover. I have ordered a dipstick on Ebay to check the transmission fluid level.
I removing the valve cover I had hoped to find an obvious source of a very significant leak that was draining onto the exhaust manifold. But careful examination of the gasket shows no sign of a problem. (??) I have on order a new gasket set,and I will install it very carefully. But I am always concerned when there is no visible reason for the problem in the first place. Is there something I am missing in this region?
Thanks to everyone that has responded to my questions. Without this forum I would not have a clue of how to repair these very complicated cars. My hot rods are much simpler.

Valve cover leaks can be caused by a hairline crack, particularly next to the rear fixing holes. The problem is that once removed and no longer under tension, the crack closes up and is very difficult to spot.

You can flex the plastic cam cover around the fastener holes to check for cracks. Another cause for leaks at the cam covers is the part load breather hose on the left side cover. When you remove the breather line blow it out and make sure it is clear and then if you look into the fitting on the cam cover there is a small orifice that you need to run a drill bit through to clean out the carbon build up.
A clogged breather will cause pressure to build in the crankcase and cause oil leaks.

Thank you, I will check carefully for any cracks. That would make sense, but I hope it is not so. As for the "hood not shut message", it was simply the fact that the cable running to the passenger side latch was a little stiff and was not letting the latch close. I lubed it up and worked it a bit and the problem went away. It was probably caused by the car setting out unprotected with the hood propped partly open for a year.
