After years of dealing with the crappy cup holder and no place to put my cell phone, I decided to make one. I started with a block of walnut. The small hole is for a cell phone charger cord when I can source the one I want. I still have a bit of work to do on the topcoat, but it is coming along.

BTW I am looking for something like this that is a one-side pull retractable USB-C cable. It needs to be sold in quantities of one. The only ones I can find are for bulk sale. I figured I would be able to find them on ebay, but I can't. It is the kind you can pull one side and then when you give it a tug it retracts.

Great idea. Looks great and a nice grain pattern in the walnut you chose. I might to try something like this
since the various repairs I've tried haven't worked although I'm a puffer so I'll need access to the ashtray. Is
there still a way to get to the button/clip to lift the lid?

It still lifts fine. I took off the clip but with the extra weight of the wood, it is not needed. You can get the ashtray when it is lifted.
It might need a little reworking, but how about flush mounting a standard USB socket where the small cable hole currently is? Something like this:
I mounted an item I found at my local automotive store that had 2 usb ports and a 12 lighter plug on the front wall of the armrest box. I found an unswitched power wire and used it as a power source (I put a 7.5A fuse for protection).
Now I can charge my phone when the car is off and hide it and the wires inside the armrest. I'll attach a pic tomorrow afternoon.

That is a good idea. I will look for a single USB-C. Should take up very little real estate.
