Yes definitely worth it I'd say but I bet fuel is cheaper than the stupid price we have to pay in the UK it's about £6 a gallon here what is it in the U.S.
Wow! fuel in the UK is $$$. I have made a golden rule to never let it go to less than half a tank...tricks my mind into thinking I spend less each week

Also better for the car:
1) In tank pumps (like ours), use fuel as coolant.
2) When you run near empty, the pumps have the crap floating in the tank be more of a factor (we have socks on the pumps to filter, but still)
3) Whatever metal of a gas tank covered in fuel is not covered in water/condensate (rust!)
Given that really you spend no more to keep the tank at least half full, its a no brainer. You do suffer from the fact that you burn more gas carrying the extra weight of the fuel, but that's another argument .
We just got back from our 1200 mile trip into the GA mountains. Had the top down 95% of the drive. Managed to find some nice roads like this one that changed elevation about 2000ft in this visible twisty section.
Ah yes . . . NA fuel far cheaper than UK but look at their (and our Oz) distances. I well recall our visits to the UK over past 20 years of the AA Tour Atlas that was full of "day trips" of say 20 to a breathtaking 100 miles. We once caused our dear Scottish landlady on the Black Isle on the east coast north of Inverness, severe palpitations when we announced we intended to spend the next day on the Isle of Skye on the opposite west coast, returning after visiting Eileen Donan Castle and evening meal at Drumnadrochit, Loch Ness.
Similarly Europe . . . friends in Copenhagen had trouble comprehending distance from Cairns in the north to their Queensland capital of Brisbane . . . until we showed it was the same as distance from Copenhagen to middle of Sahara in Africa! Only further south and west of Brisbane, does the rest of Australia begin.
We pay about AU$1.20 to $1.50 per litre (say US$4.00 to $5.00 per gal) across the range of fuels, which makes one of our JF members round trip of 2,500 Km (say 1,500 miles) to attend a JaguarForums regional meet quite an expense. But, I agree with the theme here . . . hang the expense, these Jaguars are just such a pleasure to drive and enjoy.
I have a lead foot so I was pleasantly surprised how GOOD the gas mileage is on my XK8! I get around 18mpg mixed driving, which is better than what I get on two of my cars with 6 cylinders.
XKR uses more fuel than XK8 i bet. I don't normally go more than 10mph over the speed limit, but on the freeway, find myself at 95+ mph all the time. I think I am addicted to the engine sound now... haha.
