Default I like the Revolver Wheel

Ok so to each their own...I like the Revolver wheel and have decided to keep it for my rebuild. I will be lowering the car with the spring kit and I have looked extensively through the forum posts and have found numerous discussions surrounding the widest tire that can be placed on the rear of earlier XK8's, like my 99, but I found nothing stating what can be placed on the original 17 inch Revolver wheel. Everything surrounds 18, 19 and 20 inch wheels. I realize the width of the wheel is a limiting factor and spacers maybe required. Does anyone know? Has anyone maxed out their 17's?

I think they are 8" wide and a 255 would be the max tire width.

Spacers won't help you with tire width - that's limited by how wide the wheel itself is. BTW, you might want to re-set that passenger window. It looks like it was up too high when the door was shut.

Default Thanks

Window has been reset thanks this is a picture from about a month ago when I got the car. It was an inheritance I have been assembling a bunch of parts including a complete suspension kit, all shocks, new brakes, rotors, calipers, you name it.Trans is being rebuilt. I will be tearing the XK8 down and restoring it from the ground up in memory of my uncle. Thanks I will go with 255/50/17 all around. Any other suggestions welcome.

+1 for liking the revolvers and also the recommendation on the tensioners. If you are intending to actually drive it a lot, might be good to go through all the hoses and cooling system.

Agreed. I'm changing out all the tensioners, primary and secondary, and all the hoses, thermostat, thermostat cover, cooling system pump, break lines. I intend to drive it and enjoy it!!

Sounds like a plan and you will find the "driving it" part will turn out to be the best (and cheapest) maintenance you can do once it is all sorted out.

I bet if you Google the words "like" and "XK8 Revolver wheel", this post is the only hit you'd get back (LOL)! Would you like an extra set for spares? What on Earth were Jaguar thinking? They put the most hideously ugly wheels I've ever seen on the 2nd most beautiful car ever made!!! And I think we all know what the MOST beautiful car ever made is. Seriously, I just read another thread about the XK-series being the intended spiritual successor to the E-type and have never seen anything but those wonderful wire spoke wheels on an E-type. I bet they'd look killer on the XKs, but so far I haven't been able to find a way to see what they would actually look like on the car - a must if I'm going to part with what will most likely be thousands of dollars for modern, REAL wire spoke wheels. To each his own!

I hate Revolvers, but they look good on XJSs, a set of spacers will help with the stance if you are that sure on keeping them.....

We are all weirdo's to a certain degree..... I hate hEap Types, I will leave it at that!

I was sooo happy to sell my leftover revolvers when I could. They won't clear the Brembos on my XKR and I had no idea what I was going to do with them.

If anyone has spare wheels they'd like to send me - please do. I happen to like the unique design of these rims!

Here's an interesting take on a Revolter........ The original picture was from a US customer who had some extensive work done on his XK and these were the original wheels (now with some bling 20s), if painted up wheel with a glossy finish this might look a bit different and I prefer them looking like this

(Crappy pic quality!)

I was nostalgically kicking the spoke wheel wish list around about two weeks ago for my XK8 (I've owned an XK150, XKE and an XJS over the years all fitted with spoke wheels) and stopped knowing that four 72 spoke spoke bolt on not knock off wheels would probably cost more than a decent daily driver, especially four 19" diameter wheels. Anyone want to throw a figure in the air for what the wheels on that black coupe would set one back? They do look outstanding.

Wires do look great and make the car more like what it really should be. Wires are, however, a LOT of work to maintain, and anyone wanting them needs to be prepared to accept that. Along with the price, lol!

Not much work these days. I didn't own a pressure washer to clean the wheels nor did I own a powerful leaf blower to dry them back when I had those Jags. I do now. Two out of three isn't bad. I still haven't solved the price issue.

I like the revolvers too. Maybe it's a Canadian thing.
