Default Idle rpm

Ok, shoot me down in flames is this is an easy answer via faq's, but I'm blowed if I can find what I'm looking for when I've searched.

I adjusted my throttle cable a day or two ago and noticed my idle speed higher than normal (or should I say higher than it was); now 700-750 from 550-600.

What I don't know is what it should be, and I'm struggling to find anything anywhere that tells me - the handbook certainly doesn't and my (probably feeble) searches on the forum have drawn blanks as far as the XKR is concerned.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Jules

ps: throttle adj =

Forgive the old saying but, "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"!!

Put the throttle cable back to where it started!

(However, if you are happy with the current, new, throttle pedal hight you can just do the setup as listed in the link below, that should get your idle corrected + full power.)

In the 4.2 the cable is only really adjusted for correct pedal position, using a special Jaguar tool.

On the 4.2 the throttle is completely electronic "Drive by wire". The 0% and 100% throttle positions are adjusted electronically.

Best to read this old thread, you can start at about page 11 post 200+

Stumpy, you should say what you think and not beat round the bush!

The pedal position didn't change noticeably BUT the throttle position DID hit the stop AFTER the adjustment. Before it was almost an inch short, and the responsiveness since the adjustment is considerable. I guess then that my adjustable electronic throttle positioning thingy is not functioning properly.

Jules,

Good to see you're picking up all the technical buzz words.

While Stumpy is right as far as he goes, if the cable from the throttle pedal has too much slack, the throttle plate will never get to 100% and if it's too tight, the throttle plate will never get back to it's idle position.

The large plastic grooved adjuster on the pedal position sensor should have 14 teeth visible outside. The special tool is intended to prevent the wideopen throttle position being hard up on the stops, so with the top of the sensor box off - it just unclips - use a piece of 3/16 inch thick packing to stop the rotating quadrant short of its max position. Then with ignition on, press the throttle pedal right down, inc kickdown, until the quadrant comes up against that spacer and hold it there for 5 seconds. That 'trains' the electronics as to where everything is positioned. Remove the spacer, box it all up and all should be back to normal.

It is not supposed to/there is no need for it to hit the stop, as per astromorg's post

After reading the linked thread (my previous post) I carried out an experiment.
I deliberately prevented the pedal from going fully to the floor/click button position.
I carried out the calibration procedure and was then able to obtain full power or WOT.
Removing the obstruction did not, obviously, give me any more performance, but it felt faster because 100% was reached in a quicker/shorter movement of the pedal than I was used to.

I take it you have carried out the calibration procedure? I have always done a battery reset first when doing/experimenting with mine!
