Default Idler Issue, not Restricted Performance

After experiencing a serpentine belt breakage caused by a idler bearing failure while on the road, I found a ride to a local parts shop and was somewhat amazed that they had both parts. I purchased them along with a 15mm wrench, and made a pit-stop fix of the problem in about 10 minutes. The thing that took longest was remembering the belt routing.

I was feeling quite self-satisfied, until the "Restricted Performance" warning came on intermittently, then disappeared, only to return again. Simultaneously, the temp gauge dropped to zero as if it had no signal. As best as I can figure, one of two things happened: 1) my ham-fisted pit-stop fix pushed something around, or 2) the flailing of the breaking belt.

Any ideas of what I may have damaged?

Regards,

check the temp thing at the Tstat housing, maybe a wire on it get beat up. I would think that not sending correct info to the ECM could give you the warning since it was not doing it before hand.

Could also be fluid upchucked into the overflow and not all got drawn back in and now there may be an air pocket that needs burping,

Did the car overheat after the belt was broken?

Hi,
Re-seated the plug, and all is well. PO must have broken off the tab on the plug, now secured with electrical tape.

No overheating Gus, I've had that experience once, long, long ago, with an MGB, and won't let it happen again.

Thanks and best regards,
