Default Interior lights on with valet

Good morning to all and I hope everyone is starting to thaw out.

Week 3 into new ownership of my 1997 XK8 vert and I'm still learning about her everyday.
I used the valet key this morning to start the car in the driveway to let it warm up before driving to work, using the remote to lock it up while she ran. Halfway to work I noticed that the interior overhead and door lights were on for the entire trip. Is this normal when operating the car with the valet key?

Nick,

I appreciate you're having some exceptionally cold weather in the northern US but it's not normal to lock the car from outside with the engine running!

Did they go off when you parked and locked up?

Hi.

Are you sure the car really locked using the key FOB. It is not supposed to lock with the FOB when the key is in the ignition..
You might have confused the security system.
Here is an extract from the Security Manual:

Hi oyster;

I locked the car with the key and not the fob to let it warm up.

The interior lights stayed on while driving using the valet key

That's what had everyone mystified.

You shouldn't be able to lock the car with the fob if the engine is running as this would set the security system. Locking it with the other key doesn't set security.
