Default Intermittent ABS Light Issue

Hi everyone:

I have a 99 XK8.

For the past year, I've experienced an intermittent ABS issue where the ABS light comes on at start uop and the dash shows a "stability control failure" message. The light and message show until 1( I turn off the ignition and restart the car and 2) drive for 100' or so at which point the light and message clear. While it may be a coincidence, this started when I picked up the car from repainting.

My guess is there might be a dirty or failing wheel speed sensor. Or it could be something else. Any thoughts on what might be the problem and how I might diagnose it further. If I take the car to the local shop, I'm sure they will recommend buying new parts.

TIA

Thom

I will guess that it's a ABS pump issue, or may be just weak battery.

But guessing isn't the way to go. The absolute first thing you must do is read the codes. There will be one (at least) stored. That will give you a big pointer as to where the problem lies. Then go from there.
