Default issues with XKR i am looking at

Hello all,
Hopefully you all will have more knowledge then me and the seller of this XKR
Im in the UK and looking at buying a XKR privately.
The seller has reported a few issues with the vehicle and would like to know if these are easy fixes or something i should keep away from.

Its a 2002 XKR convertible
* Firstly the passenger seat reclines but doesn't come back up
been told by the seller its a module? if so is this fixable and a rough cost?
* Secondly the adaptive cruise control( might be called something else) doesn't work, again been told this is a module?
Please can someone shed some light on this and where i can source the parts of it is fixable.

Thanks in Advance!

Hello from across the "pond":
Seat Recline - this could be the seat module. Easy thing to do would be to swap modules (located under the seat) between driver's and passenger's to see if problem follows modules. Actual replacement modules are quite expensive, but usually the repair is a few minutes with a soldering iron.
Cruise Control - could be a module or could be the brake micro switches. Module could also just be a few minutes with a soldering iron as could be the brake switches. Again modules quite expensive.

Are there any error messages in the display?
And if you are really interested in this car you have to either be wealthy in order to have a mechanic or be able to work on the car yourself. A 2002 is 15 years old and is going to require a bit of repair, none of which is inexpensive if a shop does it.

If I was not able to work on my 2006 XK8 it would have been gone after the extended service plan ran out.

Along with the seat module, probably the second most common thing to cause a reclining issue would be the reclining gear breaking inside the seat. There are documented fixes for that on this forum, too. As Lannyl81 pointed out, seat module swaps are by far the easiest and quickest. If you cannot repair it, I have found seat modules cost anywhere from $30-150, depending on where you source them and from what car.

Thanks both of you.
Think it might be a simple module fix. I have read the forums for the seat module and feel capable of attempting to do this before buying a new or used one.
Where is the module for the cruise control situated and how easy is it to fix... cant seem to find anything out about it online.
Thanks in Advance

Hi, I wouldn't worry to much about the seat module, quite an easy fix, the adaptive cruise module is in front of the radiator behind the bumper, you can see it from the bonnet (hood), its the radar that sees the vehicle in front, new one if you can find one ££££££1500, used one if you can find one £300ish, to repair, not allways successful at BBA Reman, there's a few threads on this if you look. Don't give up if your getting the car for a good price, it can be fixed with everyone's help on here.

Hi CaliCoaty.

If you have the registration number, then post it here:
https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk...776.1483232232

It will give you an insight on how the car has fared in its MOT tests since 2005. Can be quite revealing...

The ACC module is in the nosecone

so it's quite exposed and they do suffer from water ingress. Not easyto repair or cheap to replace, as far as I know.

HTH and good luck!

Mike

Thanks again for all your help. I will be going to have a look at the vehicle hopefully over the weekend. by that time i might have found the tread on the ACC module ha ha
If i was to take the ACC module would it need reprogramming by a jaguar specialist? and i'm guessing that the case if i source a second hand one.

You may well already know this, but there are lots more potentially expensive issues on a 2002 XKR that you should check out before worrying about the seat reclining.

Number 1 is the timing chain tensioners - your car may have the latest version, but you need to check. Number 2 is rust. If its a UK car it may look lovely and shiny on the outside, but be a rust bucket underneath. Number 3 is the convertible top and the famous green shower.

You should also get a code reader, plug it in and see if there is anything being reported that may need attention.

Start by studying this thread:-

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/

Google Xk8 green showers, xk8 tensioners etc for all you need to know. The 2002 may have the latest tensioners anyway.
