Default Jag xk8 help!

Hi I am in desperate need of some advice.I have my 97 jag xk8.it started at first to stall out then check engine light was on computer started showing fail safe mode and engine fault.i have had a lot fixed trying to diagnose this with no avail I have changed the computer it worked for little bit then went back to same old thing again.i then couldn't get it out of park shifter wasn't releasing so got new gauges that fixed that issue.then I changed the spark plugs and fuel pump.again it worked about 10 min went back to stalling.so I then went thru ASI and got a new throttle body put that in and valve covers as was leaking oil onto them and also changed water pump.she worked about 30 miles then died again
my mechanic thinks maybe a relay under passenger glove bgl.im at a loss and need my car and don't have money to keep throwing oarts on her to get no results thank you in advance jodi I also changed the breather hoses 2 of them and got a new vaccum line which im not sure if mechanic put in the vaccum line as of yet .any advice greatly appreciated 🙏

Do you have the current ODBII codes for the car (scan the car with an ODBII scanner, preferably one that knows jag-specific codes)? That can be very helpful in starting to diagnose issues without throwing parts.

Default Need to get OBD DTC codes

Jodi,

+1 to Dale’s advice to get the DTC codes read. The XK8 has a modern complicated engine management system so just throwing new parts at it will end up expensive and may not fix the problem. Get a good local mechanic familiar with Jag’s to read the DTC codes through the OBD2 port. Post them here and we’ll have more to go on.

It does sound like you have more than one problem though - 1. Car not shifting out of Park, 2. engine check light, 3. stalling etc.

Let’s see if we can the car fixed.... cheaply!

David is right on point... Change that coolant temp sensor right away... Do this first - cheap and easy (make sure you have the right part!). The coolant temp sensor "talks" to a lot of systems and can throw things WAY off...
