Default jaguar convertible top powerlatch hose

Looking for replacement hydraulic hoses for the convertible top power latch for a 2004 XK8, does anyone have a recommendation on where to buy them?

If I were facing this, the convertible hydraulic system info on Gus's site would be a must read: JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

Many good DIY threads are available if you choose that route.

I used Cabriolet Hydraulics out of Florida with great satisfaction and many others have use Top Hydraulics with similar positive results - both offer higher rated hoses than OEM and as flat6 recommends Gus's site has a wealth of info regarding the hydraulics and top operations

I just ordered the hydraulic hoses for my XK8 this morning from Cabriolet Hydraulics, thank you very much for the source. Do you have a suggestion for the hydraulic fluid? And last can the convertible roof on the XK8 be manually lowered and raised if I want to use it before I get the hoses changed?

Yes the top can be manually raised/lowered but you have to be cautious so as not to force the ram causing it to bend. See Post 2 above as flat6 provided a link to a very good site that discusses manual operation.

For fluid use Pentosin CHF-11S - should be able to buy a NAPA, Autozone or any of the big box auto parts stores

Yes you can. It is identical to the green fluid in a 2004. The pre-2000 years had yellow fluid which needs to be flushed.

I just removed both hoses going to the convertible roof latch, the outer black casing just crumbled in my hands as I was pulling them out. I noticed that one of the hoses going to the right lift main cylinder has about 2 inches of the black outer casing missing but does appear to be leaking, I assume I should replace these hoses.

yes - it's just a matter of time before the hose separates from the connector and you have an even bigger mess to clean up

Is there any instructions on replacing the hoses? the lift cylinders on my XK8 has the bottom hose with the clip holding it in place, is there any issues in removing the clip?

If you have not ordered the hoses yet, make sure you let them know when you order that the one end of the hose uses the clip fitting. The clip is easy to remove when you are ready to replace - just use a small screw driver to pry it up and then pull the fitting out. Below is a link to the repair procedures

I have ordered the hoses and I told them which hoses that I need type with the clip. The link you sent me is the one for the latch hose replacement. I assume the cylinder hose replacement is much simpler to do since I have already removed the speaker.

yes cylinder hoses just feed through the passenger side rear wall and just route directly to the cylinders - fairly straight forward

Sorry to bother you again, The hoses for the right side main lift cylinder are due in today. Do I need to shut off the pump valve and will there be a lot of fluid draining out of the cylinder when I remove the hoses?

Default Messy old job

Yes, and Yes to both your questions. It’s a messy oily job.

I drained the tank first and put a lot of rags around when I did the job. Had the end bungs from the new hoses so used those to stop the fluid spilling everywhere. There won’t be lots of fluid as hoses are thin, but it’s hydraulic fluid and stains.
