Jaguar is insane!
I am looking for a 99 XK8 shift gate. Jaguar calls this a bezel, and wants $435 for a $25 piece of black plastic. I bought my car used, and it came with the right side of the shift gate broken off. If nobody here has one for a good price, I will be checking with breakers in Britain, who are willing to ship overseas. I almost messed myself, when Jaguar quoted me the price, and wanted a core back on top of it. I asked them if that was the correct part, and not the whole assembly. When they quoted me that price, I did mess myself. It would be cheaper for me to go to a machine shop, and have them cut out a thin piece of brushed stainless, with their laser, that I can glue over. It would probably look better too. Just an outreach of frustration.....Be cool....Mike

Two things - surely the shift gates are the same throughout the 1990 to 2002 range of cars - so one from from any XJ will also fit?
Secondly - look on Ebay for a suitable car (selling any part) but which says 'breaking'. I send a message stating what I want and offering a sum of money to the Seller, and, if they agree (and they usually do), they put it on as a Buy It Now for an hour or so.

Jaguar's parts prices are developed for their target market of new car buyers/leasers a large percentage of which have the acquisition and maintenance cost subsidized by other than personal income.
That's why there is such a large and appreciated secondary market supplier network. Plus, most of us on the forum would not own Jaguars without the ability to do most of the maintenance and repairs ourselves.
A previously owned Jaguar is best owned by a hobby mechanic.

As for the brushed stainless repair overlay, someone was actually selling something similar on ebay for a while, but seems to have stopped.

There are different types, depending on cruise control / non cruise control / SC / NA etc., but if it's this :
BEZEL, SWITCH GEARBOX MODE ,Std (non-adaptive) speed control, Exc 4.0 Litre S/C, From VIN (031303) - Terrys Jaguar Parts - LJA6221DE
is what you are after, then $150.00 seems a bit more reasonable ?

Is it just the cover for the J gate you need? These rarely come up on Ebay, but whole J gate assemblies do. For a 99 model, you could remove the cover from an XJ8 assembly as they are more numerous. Here is one available in the UK at present: JAGUAR XJ8 GEAR SELECTOR | eBay
