Arrow Is Jaguar SE Replacing Headlights Under Warranty Due To Condensation ?

Well the headlight assemblies has condensation and numerous of members has stated that Select Edition has replaced them under warranty as a "Recall Issue". Is this true ? I plan on going to the dealer but I don't want them to tell me its not covered. I have heard that Select Edition Warranty can be unpredictable on whats covered and what is not. Please advise. Thanks

you would have to call and ask the warranty admin at the dealer. they have the list. it is NOT a recall, but a TSB(tech service bulletin) and an old 1 at that. I doubt it but I would ask with a phone call. Select doesnt cover near what they used to.

I need a definitive answer because a couple people said Select replaced them under warranty.

again.......call the dealer, what was covered in the past may no longer be covered today. and then theres a wording issue. is it condensation, or gasket failure, do you have HIDS or halogens. its Sunday and Im n ot working today, so call monday morning....
you might get them covered if worded so they fall into another replacement catagory. For instance, select does not cover anything with the SRS system like a cancellation module(steering wheel cassette) but if its worded that the horn doesnt work then the cancellation module can be replaced for that reason, but not for an air bag light

Here's an answer, summarized from Brutals multiple attempts.... it's dealer specific, and how its 'described' as to whether it will be covered.

Seriously...

I dont understand as to why people are getting upset. Select Edition doesnt give us a list of parts thats covered and parts thats not covered. Thats where the confusion is. The consumer needs to know what is and whats not. That way they dont have to go into the dealership and waste time and pay diagnostic fees just to find out its not covered. This is ridiculous.

pm me tommorrow and Ill photocopy the list and mail it to you. then you can SEE what Im talking about...It also covers SOME tsb's but you have to have those also to know what they are. And Select is no longer IMO the best warranty out there like I used to feel and recommend. I feel Easy Care is one of the best. But over the last few years ALL (that are still in business) have really cut back on what they used to cover and make us jump through flaming hoops to get things approved. Especially if they go over $1000, they ALWAYS send out an inspector to take pics and make me go through all the same tests Ive already done to Prove to them my diagnosis, and NO I do not get more time or money for this.

The word is that a process is gone through by the dealers to try to rid the headlights of their condensation, and if that fails, they can be swapped out under warranty. This was applied to old (steel XKs and now to the new aluminium model. As it rains so much here in the UK, this happens a lot here !!

The process apparently involves switching on the lights for some 30 minutes with bonnet up and engine running, and checking for security of bulb covers.

i pulled the list, the only headlights for xk's that are covered are 07^ hids
the tsb for condensation is not covered, this involves drilling a hole on the inside of the hl assembly where there is a 1/4" boss by the turn signal and installing a rubber vent to increase air flow in.out of the assembly
im waiting for the list to be email to me so i can forward to you

I just bought my first XK8 and it has condensation in the driver side headlamp. If you have any photos on where to drill I might need to go this route.

Dalen, here's the TSB for the Headlight fix, i'd try a larger vent diameter if it were me, its gotten mixed results.

Hey thanks! I opened the see through cap last night and left the hood up in the garage and it has almost cleared out overnight. I would prefer not to have to do that every time however. Does it help to use the "t" piece? Not sure where I would find one of those.

Thats exactly what i do on a heavy rain and considerable condensation. Actually, I leave my see-through-cap slightly askew, not fully snapped in, and I get very little condensation...and I don't have the vent installed. Any I do get, usually disappears overnight w/o any special bonnet raising or other tricks.

I was thinking that would have been a good idea as I was driving around today. Which side do you leave slightly askew? The outside (towards the side of the car) or the inside?

Well when I went into the Jaguar Dealer they replaced my headlights with brand new ones under Select Edition Warranty. Ever since they replaced them I have not had any condensation.
