Jaguar XK8, 2002 - whining noise
Hi
Bengt from Norway, a true Jaguar lover since I was 18, now 67😊
Now in position of 2 Jaguars, S-type from 2007, and XK8 4L from 2002
But I have a problem with my XK8!!
Between 1500-2000 RPM a high whinning noise come from "somewhere", we believe it may be the Oil pump and have now removed it. (motor manaufactured October 2001)
The new pump I have purchased does fit, but are very different. On the old pump there are 2 pipes that feeds hydraulic oil to the chain. On the new pump these are left out. Part # of new pump is AJ3811878.
Question, is lubrication of the chain not needed from the oil pump. So Jaguar left it out on the 2002 models (and the following models)
Hope someone can advice.
Thanks
Bengt

I think the part number is AJ811878 which fits the X100 models from VIN number A00083. Your car should be well within this period as that is an early X100.If the oil pipes are internal fittings rather than connecting to something outside the pump, then I think you're right that the two pipes were discontinued on later revisions of the pump. However, it is still the correct part for your model.

Hi Richard
Appreciate your reply to my "concern", yes indeed, it would be strange if the AJ3811878 pump was not to be used for this late 2001 engine. The pump with hydraulic lines are no more in production.
X-fingers that the time chain will get sufficient of oil😊
