Default What is normal noise for Bosch 010 intercooler pump

I am in the process of upgrading the intercooler pump and went for the 010 model.

When I switched it on it made an AWFUL noise and if it wasn't brand new I'd say the bearings are going out. Where the old hella pump is a quiet whir this is a screech!

There have been a few others who have tried this pump, so how noisy is it in your application? Did I just get a dud?

Sounds like a dud. There's never been any mention of screeching.

Was the pump immersed at the time?

Should be about as quiet as the hella, it could be that its running in an airbubble (like plums said), at least that is when I know these type of units make terrible noises like you describe, don't run it like that as you can ruin it. Problem in this configuration is that it sucks in from the intercoolers, and that is where you usually still have some air in after a coolant re-fill.

Did you follow the JTIS bleed procedure involving removing the big hex bleed screw on the S/C?

Yes to all of the above questions. I filled from the reservoir until fluid stayed in the tank then topped off through the hex screw until the level was rising in the tank. Next step was to turn the key on and let the pump run, but oh boy what a noise.

I just ran it a few seconds and turned it back off, so shouldn't be damaged. I will try burping the lines to the pump before pulling it out entirely just to be sure there isn't a bubble.

Thanks all.

Without being silly you could always dunk the sucky-blowey (technical term) bit in a bucket of water.
I hesitate to say this - you have got the wires the right way round.

Being that this required modifying the connector the wiring was a real possibility and was the first thing I checked. Fortunately for my pride (and unfortunately for the problem) it's wired correctly.

I had closed up the reservoir last night and left the hex plug open and when I checked this morning the level was down a bit.

Interesting, I say, and put a little more fluid in. Plug the pump in, key on and whiiiiiiirrrrrrr. All in all I added another cup or two before it stopped bubbling.

So, an air slug it must have been.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I never would have guessed it to make THAT much noise for having an air bubble.
