I just ran across a video on youtube titled (Jaguar XK8 Cluster Cloning - Detailed video of strip down, processor removal & reading process) Just thought it might be helpful to someone. A good soldering lesson if nothing else.

I think the lesson learnt is spend the cash and pay someone else to do this.

It's an interesting video though - if you have the tools (and skills) to remove a chip like this from the board, suitable programmers can be bought not too expensively on eBay (XPROG-M I think) and you too could clone your dashboard. It looks like you can roll back the mileage as well if you know how.
