Default Jaguar XK8/XKR gearlever surround lighting Question

Hi

I'm just wondering if there should be any lighting around the gear lever. The only light I have coming on is a red light which shows what gear you're in such as driver etc. but I was wondering if all the other letters should also light up maybe in green etc.

Also the Cruise control and sports mode buttons don't light up. Only show a red light when pressed but in the dark it's hard to remember which one's which.

Finally there's no lighting on the steering wheel for the audio and cruise control buttons.

I'd just like to know if this is all normal or have I got bulbs that have gone out.

in my 1998, the selected gear is illuminated. Neither my cruise control, nor my Sport button have backlighting but I too have always wondered if they should. The steering wheel on the 1998s have no backlighting.

Don't forget to tell us what year/model you have when you pose questions.

From my research on this topic, the cruise and sports buttons should be backlit. There also should be a white light along the shift path of the gear shift lever. Steering wheel controls have no backlighting.

The "J Gate" should be backlit. However, it's not a straightforward "plug 'n play" job - new bulbs must be soldered to the board. Not difficult, but a bit fiddly.

Rocky15.
Can't remember - that link I posted might recommend a RadioShack bulb which are difficult to track down in the UK. However, these are readily available :

| Lead Pins Filament Indicator Lamp, Clear, 12 V, 60 mA, 10000h |

Sorry I've just noticed possibly more bulbs out.

Should the switch that works the roof light up as mine doesn't.

Also I noticed the passenger window switch does not light up but the drivers side does.

Kind Regards

Rocky

Can't believe I have so many bulbs out. It must be to 20" wheels and all the pot holes doing the filaments in.

It's unbelievable everyone has the same bulbs out. I now have the bulb out on my heater auto button and my hazard button doesn't light up. It does when I press it but again no night time illumination.

I know some of the switches are expensive but just wondering if anyone's took one apart to see if the bulb can be changed.

I took the convertible roof switch apart and it looked like the bulb was not replaceable. I assume it's the same for the cruise and sport mode switches. It looks like you have to replace the switch to fix the bulb problems. What a waste.
