K&N Oil Filter?

K&N Oil Filter?
Hello all,
I am finding that parts are more elusive for the 4L motors than the 4.2L that I am used to working on...
I am trying to find out if K&N has an oil filter for the 4L XK8s. The K&N website says that they do not have a filter for this application. I have found the Mobil 1 M1-213 fits, and as far as I know the internals are the same as they are both made by Champion. However, in my past experiences the K&Ns were less expensive, and I like the nut on the end because all of these newfangled cars with their cramped engine compartments rarely give room to fit an oil filter wrench (end old man rant mode).
So I cross-referenced the part number, and it came back with the K&N HP-1014. However, that part number does not come up as a match. I believe that I remember the HP-1014 to be for the 4.2L engine.
Can someone shed some light on this?
Thanks,
Marty

I like the K&N too for the nut on the end. But I wasn't sure since it only lists the 4.2. so I went with the MAHLE OC323 I'll tell you next Spring if I can get it off.

I have never used a K&N oil filter. I usually use Wix filters, but I got a load of Motocraft OEM ones intended for a Lincoln LS from one of my mechanic friends for super cheap. He never sees any Jags or the new school Ford Thunderbirds, and rarely sees Lincoln LS so he gave me most of his inventory below cost. He had a ton of them that he picked up in bulk at a dealership closeout auction and I still have 3 or 4 left in my stash.

When the 4.2 engine came out in late 2002 we were installing the regular 4.0 V8 oil filters on them for oil changes.
I told the parts dept that the oil filts on the 4.2 was shorter and had a different number.
They did NOT have the correct filts so for a few months we used the 4.0 filts.
The parts dept got a bulletin and shipment of NEW style oil filters!!!!!!!!! a little while later.
The threads and gaskets are the same. I'm sure there are very few differences between the filts.

Be aware of installing a filter that the manufacturer don't says fits the car/engine. If you get problems due to the oilfilter and try to claim warranty to the manufacturer, they won't even look at your case, if you use a filter that is not recommended to the application.
Mann number W719/7 is an option.

Yes, the HP-1014 is the correct filter for a 2003, which runs the 4.2L engine. My original question was will it work on the 4.0L, which I now know that it does. K&N does not list a compatible filter for this engine.

Good point. Well if I blow this engine up, I'll just get to swap in the LS1 faster. That's looking on the bright side.
