Have a 99 xk8 convert and the key fob slowly got worse and worse. Replaced the batteries and did nothing. Using the key for awhile and I finally took it apart. Wow is all I can say. I guess the sweat of years and maybe coffee etc had turned some of the rubber to a slimy gel like material. It was a real mess. I used small cloth and some rubbing alcohol and also cleaned up the pc board. Although the small contacts were worn I put it back together and it works like a charm from a good distance away now. Easy fix and its never worked so good
