Default Key programming

I lost my only key for my 2005 XK8 convertible. A locksmith cut a new key for me, but doesn't seem to able to program the new key. Any suggestions?

I only got 1 so I immediately went and got a additional one made. It took a while but finally i found a guy who worked out of his trunk. $200.00. After going to several, either one of them reccomended this guy or I googled 2001 jaguar keys made near me.

My recommendation is to start calling locksmiths. It's usually a pretty tight community and someone will know who has the right gadget to program the chip. Just ask them if they can cut a key and program the chip for your year XK. It took me 5 or 6 calls in the Boston area and I ended up at a mall kiosk type locksmith - took a little time, but worked perfectly.

What does that mean? Do they have the device, but it somehow did not work, or do they only offer key cutting services?

First thing to check is that your key came with a Megamos 48 crypto chip installed. The system changed in 2001. The earlier Megamos 13 will not work. These "tibbe" keys were also deployed to other models without a security chip, so it is possible your particular replacement key came with nothing.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Apparently, I'm not the only one driving around with only one key. Probably not a great idea. Mine goes to a 98xk8 convertable How can I tell if it has a MEGAMOS 48 or 13 c5ryptochip?

A 1998 Jaguar is NOT MEGAMOS 48. (2000MY onward but I don't remember VIN specific)

Thanks for the info. Have been reading the many discussions about replacement keys and have come to believe my 1998 xk8 is MEGAMOS 13. Being 73 years old and come from the pre-transistor days, I realized that after reading all of this, I think I'll just head for the dealership, hold out my wallet and say "Please don't hurt me".

Default Key programming

Lost keys on a 98 XJ8 Vandan Plas. I bought and replaced steering wheel column, came with two keys and fob for $150.00.
Now I need the two keys program or the immobilizer program.

Will the Ids v 136 or any version software let me change the immobilizer code for the two new keys.

I am not trying to buy a high dollar unit to sink the keys with the immobilizer. Any suggestions?

you can try with a chinese mongoose and v130 or 160 they all run the same version of ids.

if that doesn’t work and you can wait a bit i can mail you the older tool.

LorMor!

You are up the Creek about a Mile with NO Boat! How do you plan to et this problem solved? You can't drive the Car...so they will have to come to you!!!! I'm not sure where Traverse City is, but if it's in the USA you are in LUCK!
First: Get in the Computer and find a Traveling Key Guy! The closest City to you should have one on the Internet...Tell him your problems! He will come to you with the proper Equipment and take your current Key and match it with another....Then he will program both keys to match your Ignition System! You pay Him $500.00 or $600.00 Bucks and the problem is solved! That's about all you can do, my Man! That's just the way it is......

Good Luck!

Will that work to program keys to the immobilize? I read to use V130 do to I have a 98 J8. It has more to do with the software than the Chinese Mongoose cable.
