Default Key rubs on knee

My XK ignition key rubs on my knee while driving. Very irritating! Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?

Yes.
No.

Its actually the hanging Fob that hits me. I could separate but thats asking for trouble. Maybe move to a flip key?

Lol if you're not an amputee you will have this problem on both the x350 and the x100. It's a minor inconvenience to the bright side of having all of your appendages. Welcome to the club!

Me too. All I can say is be ready if you knock the key into off position at 70mph. I did- scared the hell out of me. Unlike my other cars, the x100 needs to be cycled off before the key will turn to ignition. Go too far and you lock the steering. Oh yeah the tranny must be in neutral too as I recall.

Do the flip key conversion. I used my valet key as the donor. Easy DIY.

On the rare occasions when I have to drive my wife's XK8, I take the key off the key chain and just use it alone. At 6-foot-7 with mile-long legs, it is the only chance I have for my right knee not to hit the key chain although it sometimes still does. Reason Number 147 why I drive her car as little as possible....

I used 3/8 X 1 bar stock to relocate my seat runners 2" back. Much more comfortable for long legs.

My seat is lowered all the way. My other cars allow me to raise the front of the seat which results in a little more leg room. I never had a problem when I was young.

Hi RJ237,

Can you post some pictures or write in more detail on how to do the seat runners mod to gain more legroom?

I've considered a start switch in place, but worry about theft. From a quick look it sounds like they integrate some sort of security feature. I also wonder if they will "play" well on a Jaguar. Omgimali, do you have any experience with them?

I did it several years ago and don't recall the details. The bar stock is 19" long and drilled to fit the car floor holes. I believe the rear holes were then counter sunk to use flat head fasteners so that the seat track would lie flat.

The bar was then drilled and tapped to allow the seat rail to be attached. I'm sure you can find a machine shop to make the modification at a reasonable price.

I was going to locate it even further back, but the seat back would then have to be upright in order to reach the steering wheel, and that is not comfortable.

Default Velcro does the trick

Small piece of velcro under the ignition with corresponding piece on the back of the fob/remote. Works perfect. Just have to get used to putting the key in so the velcro catches.

Now that seems pretty painless, quick, and cheap.
