Question Knock From Above Left Rear Wheel When 99 XK8 First Moves?

When I first start moving, I hear a knock that sounds like it comes from above my left rear wheel.

I have listened for it when I first step on the accelerator in neutral, but the sound only comes when the car first begins to move: not immediately, but say a yard, or a few yards, after first movement.

The noise isn't loud, but I get it fairly consistently when the car first begins to move.

There isn't continued knocking. You get one or two knocks and then silence until the car is at halt and next begins to move again.

It's not something rolling around in my trunk or the spare wheel well; I checked for that possibility.

Now I'm wondering if it either has to do with the transmission system while the car is still in first gear, or whether it has to do with a break pad perhaps not having pulled back, and then snapping back with a knock when the car first moves....

Any thoughts on what could be causing this sound?

Transmission mount perhaps? The rubber can degrade and it usually is described as a knocking sound. Do you hear it when shifting from reverse to drive?

Jersey, Do you use the hand brake? When it's really cold the hand brake cable or the shoes in some cases, (real wet), freeze up and are hard to come off. A pad can have the same problem in slushy type driving.

Check that the rear inner brake pads are still secured with a spring in the piston. Otherwise they can rattle at slow speed.

Default I'll check these possibilities...

Thank you for the preceding three posts.

I'll check the brake pads and spring, the hand brake shoes (I do use the hand brake and it has been absolutely freezing outside), and the transmission mount.

I appreciate the suggestions!

If those don't pan out Look at he suspension, particularly the lower shock bushings (tops are prob shot also) if you've never had them replaced or the history doesn't show replacement.

Default same issue

I have the exact same issue. Did you ever nail down the problem? Mine started after I replaced the pads and rotors. I adjusted the hand brake.
I'm going to pull the wheel and look around.
