Default LCD Brake Light Bulb

Hi all:

I have '99 XK8. I'd like to put LED bulbs in the rear stop light sockets, but I have found a light that works. The issue is the LEDs I put in led to a warning on the dash suggesting the bulbs weren't working even thought I could both were.

Has anyone found a bulb that works. If so, I'd appreciate any information you have so I can order one.

Thanks

Thom

I think you may require CANBUS error free LED's. They are fitted with a resistor to prevent the error you are getting. Should be readily available.

A CANBUS led will not resolve this problem, and there is no bulb that will work without additional modifications. These cars are old enough they are using a different way of detecting a burnt out bulb and the only way you can make the message go away in an XK8 is to add enough parallel resistors to keep the monitoring circuit happy.

soundCharlie, (CCFulton) Sent me directions on how to attach enough resistors to the Traces to make the Brake and Blinker Lights work most of the time with LED Bulbs,,,...
I have tried it and it works but only some of the time.....I'm still working with it but still not 100% but they are getting better than at first!.... The Lights work OK but the Blinkers occasionally sound like they are on fast Blink but they are not and occasionally the "Check Rear Lights" signal comes on....I've added more Resistors but it still does it now and then....Never give up! Mine is a 2005 and I don't know if this trick would work on anything prior to 2003....They have started selling LED Bulbs that they say are CanBUS protected but they are not on a Jaguar....Don't be fooled by just! They don't work.....If you want LED Bulbs...Charlie's way is the only way to go.....Also, for your information, You can use any LED Bulb you want in the Back-up Light and the English Fog Light, as they are not connected t the CanBUS system,,,,I have one of those Flower LED's in the EFL and an LED that has a Search Light on the end in the Back-up Light.....Works great!
