Default Location of Fuel Filter 2006 XK-8

Looking for the location of the fuel filter on 2006 XK-8, and I bought the new filter, which seems to be a GM part, with screw in compression fittings on both ends.

I've searched under the car, and in the engine compartment, and can't find the location.

The replacement file is quite large, so it must be hidden under some valence of heat shield somewhere.

Can someone assist?

Thanks a million.

Avery

Avery, I have a 98. Look under car enter by Dr rear wheel. See hose running to it hidden behind a heat shield. Unscrew then bend heat shield by hand for access to filter. It's probably fore of the axle, hard to recall.

I pull gas pump relay while idling to relieve pressure. Though a half cup of gas will come out.

Not sure of my facts here, but isn't the later (post 2003 ish) fuel filter push-fit connectors. Early cars have screw connectors.
Don't disconnect existing until you are sure you have the correct replacements.

Devon is right early models up to 2000 maybe 2002 had screw ends, 2002 on had push fit with protruding ring in the metal inlet/outlet pipes.
Part No from JEPC is C2S20977.

Follow the fuel lines under the LH of the vehicle.

As others have said, those screw-in fittings into the fuel lines are incorrect. You will need to source the proper filter. I used the Motorcraft FG-986B fuel filter purchased from amazon.com back in March 2015 for about $12 with free shipping. After wrapping the canister with a couple layers of duct tape to snug it up inside its bracket, it fit like a glove....

Further Question from Avery (Ironman4155):

Firstly, thanks to all of you, here, I have located the filter and confirmed as you all suspected, that it is not the screw in compression fitting type but rather the "tube with a flared portion" fitting" type.

It is not at all easy to get at, but when I do, what will I experience?

There seems to be a "rubber boot" protecting the fittings, and it is "L" shaped.

Do I just grab that and pull it back and off of the filter?

Seems like a low pressure type of way to attach the line to the filter?

Will I need tools to take the inlet and outlet lines off of the filter?

I'm sorry, but I'm an old Southern California Hot Rodder-type (read SAE), and this is my first experience with a Jaguar, but rest-assured I'm lovin' it (Nottttt!)

Again, thanks in advance to all of you die hards.

Loosen the lines. Loosen the clamp around the filter. The filter will slide out.

Have a look at post #27 of this https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...r-84194/page2/ . The middle photo shows the white tab that needs to be pushed in to release the quick disconnect, you don't need the tool he is using, just push in the tab.
On mine it was easiest to clean the connector, find the tab and push it in with the side of a screwdriver as access is tight.

^^ I did exactly the same. I first cleaned the connections well so I could actually see the white tabs (they get covered with road grime as the years go by), then I used a small flathead screwdriver to push them to the open position because my fingers are far too large to fit into the space. I then slid both hoses off the old filter expecting a deluge of fuel to soak my hands. Only a few drops of fuel spilled. But those drops were greyish-colored so that filter should have been changed much sooner than I did. It was the original filter with a 2005 date stamped onto it. I changed it at 90,000 miles. Dirty fuel filters can really stress fuel pumps so it is a good idea to change them more frequently. 30,000 to 40,000-mile intervals may be a much safer bet, and keep in mind that replacing fuel pumps in these XK8 tanks is a major job....

Thanks to everyone, I appreciate the advice.

I think I can do this, as I'm skinny (skinny fingers, too).

And it is certainly good that my shoulder and neck are still in pain from changing the brake light switch.

So it won't be a new injury I'll have to explain!

Only an exacerbation of an "old-tymer's" pre-existing, shade tree mechanic's injury.

Again, I'm truly grateful to all of you who responded to my first post as a member! Hope I can reciprocate someday!
