Location of lighting module for 2002 XKR
My plate lamps are not lighting. Grounds are good, no voltage on the socket feed, voltage present on the fuse that supplies the lighting module. I cannot find the lighting module anywhere in the trunk area. My PDF shop manual shows the right rear but the only thing in this location is the fuse box with relays and the adaptive control module. There appears to be an empty slot where one might have been planned but there is no corresponding plug. Anyone have guess as to where this module is located?
Iwz3,
What year electrical guide are you looking at? The car had 3 Generations over it's lifetime with developments and changes made.
I only have the 1999MY Gen 1 model, so have no direct experience of changes in your 2002MY, but my understanding was the separate Lighting Control Module was removed and it's function integrated into the SLCM module in the later Jags.

I may have found the answer from an unrelated post. The lighting module was incorporated into the slcm module for MY 2002 and it is said to be under the trunk fuse box. I’ll have to check this out and report back.
For me, one was clearly broken, one came apart in my hands.
After I physically fixed the broken wires including thick heat shrink, I wrapped the rest with self-sticking silicone tape to help prevent this happening again.
2002 Electrical Guide may be helpful if you don't already have it (vast commonality with 2001 Guide) - http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jagxk2002.pdf.

I appreciate the input into this issue. I would tend to agree that the most likely cause of the license plate lights not working is a broken wire leading from the trunk lid into the trunk area. Everything else seems to be working with respect to the rear end lights. I will check this out before monkeying with the SLCM module.
CRBass, you were right! The no plate lights issue was due to broken wires (3/4 in the bundle) at the lower point of the conduit clamp that is attached to the R forward trunk hinge. the only intact wire was the black ground. The problem has been repaired with restoration of the lights. I repaired the conduit with marine shrink tubing from Harbor Freight which is good stuff. It is thicker, has a greater shrink rate than regular shrink tubing and has a lining akin to hot glue that seals the wire well. I looked closely at the movement of the conduit after placing it in the locator clamp and decided there would be less bending stress and greater freedom of movement if the wires were left out of the clamp. This has worked out well with no pinching of the conduit by the trunk seals.
Now that this problem has been resolved, it's on to one of several other electrical issues.

Success! Well done and thanks for letting us know how you resolved your problem.
It’s nearly always a broken wire somewhere under stress.
Good luck sorting out your other gremlins.
