Hi Norri

Thanks. I've been corresponding with Steve off-and-on over the last few months about this. It's been so since he delved in it with his car that he just can't remember the details.

Sorry about yesterday's Six Nations match!

OK sorry that didn't help.
You can see from my other posts my expectations of Scottish international teams are extremely low, they didn't disappoint!

Thanks for the update. Can you tell us what the backlighting connections are and what you connected them to? From the wiring diagram (attached thanks to GGG) there is the DIMMER OVERRIDE and DIMMER. Are the lights just 12V?

dibbit,

My car is a 2003 XK8. In it, the FC97 12-pin connector, pin #2 (FC97-2) is the negative ground. The harness wire attached to it is black (BK). Contrary to the wiring diagram which shows pin #11 as the dimmer control, pin #12 (FC97-12) is actually variable positive voltage controlled by the dimmer knob on the steering column. The harness wire attached to it is red/blue (RU). I hope this information is helpful.

Sorry, I forgot to respond to this question. Yes, the blue lights behind the dash push buttons are just 0 - 12 VDC LEDs.

Thanks Bill, that is useful. My car is a 2001, so perhaps the wiring connections are different. I will put my multimeter on the connections to make sure before connecting anything.

I am following in your footsteps and installing a Garmin unit to replace the built in sat nav - I'm almost ready to pull the original unit out and replace it with the new one. The Garmin is almost an exact fit for the original screen.

BTW the LEDs (at least on mine) are just bulbs with a blue plastic cap.

Thanks again for the info.

Please keep me updated on your progress. If I can help, let me know. Good luck!

Wow, to be honest, I never checked my blue backlights that closely. I "assumed" they were LEDs. Oops, maybe mine are actually tiny bulbs with plastic lenses too.
(I don't want to take everything apart again to find out.)

To get mute from the Telephone, the mute Cable is set to ground.
I have this connected to the mute-out on my Parrot handsfree and it works instantly, no delay. And as a bonus it says PHONE in the radios display.

However getting the sound thru the Telephone input is not working well as it seems the audio is a ballanced signal and thus somewhere between a low level and a high level signal. There are adaptors for this at a price ofcourse.
Connecting the low-level signal to this will give you audio but very low and possible burn your audio out as the impedance is only about 1kOhm in a ballanced input.
