Default Looking for some opinions what to do with coolant change

Well I'm getting ready to change out the thermostat and do a coolant swap as it's been a while since the last one. Did the thermostat about 5 years ago and figured I do a little preventative maintenance.

Checked out the DIY section and most members seemed pretty adamant that I should have the yellow and not the orange dexcool for my year. It's a 1997 with ending VIN of 014939.

I currently have the dexcool orange as a few years ago I had taken it to jaguar for a bad secondary water pump. Jaguar found the car had the green which is what I got it with. They proceeded to flush it and used the orange instead of the yellow.

So my dilema is now do I stay with the orange or switch back to the yellow. I know there are issues with the OAT (dexcool) coolants and gaskets on engines not approved for it.

Any opnions are appreciated and a special thanks to Matt for the thermostat finally gonna use it.

There are no issues with dexcool in Jaguars, and it is not without a reason they changed from the yellow to orange. So as they have already flushed the system and replaced the yellow, its orange that you need. Iirc Jaguar now even leaves the orange in for 8 or 10 years.

I always do a flush and fill on a new (to me) Jaguar so I know exactly what coolant and, more importantly, what concentration is in it.

Thought I'd read 5 years for the recommended change interval but can't find any reference to this. Have you got a Jaguar ref for 8 or 10 years?

The 10 years is for instance mentioned in a 2009 XF Owner’s manual (You can check these on Topix).

I haven't seen a revised change interval for our model years (Jaguar will probably not issue anything anymore anyway I guess).

Thanks for the response guys,

I had to change out the water pump about 3 months ago and just hadn't got to the thermostat yet. I used the prestone dexcool which states 5yr/150K so maybe thats where they get the 8-10yrs based on mileage not yrs.

I want to say jaguar did the secondary pump 3yrs ago and that's when they went orange. Always good to to get an opinion from those much more knowledgable than me. Thanks again
