Default Lowering springs options

Hi All,

I am looking for options to replace my stock R-performance springs JLM21278 AND JLM21276 as they are no longer manufactured or available anywhere (I am told these springs ride 10mm lower than the stock XKR's when new).

I am looking to lower my car by 10-15mm from stock or put me somewhere close to where my OEM springs were.

I have heard Mina Gallery, H&R, Adamesh, and Eibach all make kits. Am I missing any options?

Mina Gallery- lower by 1.2 inches
H&R- lower by 1.3 inches
Adamesh by 1 inch.
Eibach by ???

If you have installed any of these kits can you post a picture and how you like them? Do they ride harshly? How much did it actually lower your car by?

Thanks!

Adamesh Springs

I like them a lot, didn't hurt the ride (bushings and wheels matter more). My original front springs were sagging already so the front didn't change much with the new, "lower" spring. The back is down by about 1" which is (I think) where the car should be.

Looks great!! I love the Perseus wheels too! Almost as much as my Detroit's (yes I know they are more common!).

I think I agree. The ride height reminds me more of an E-type series 1 ride height.

H&R Springs

Mine might sit a tad lower than Charlie's car (which is a BEAUTIFUL car, by the way)... I am not sure what the overall change was, but I am happy with these springs.

Unhappy Lowered 2005 XKR

I am very unhappy with the lowered springs that were installed by a previous owner, and am looking to return to stock springs. No idea what brand of springs were used, however they are too low. The car will rub on fast turns, or when there is a passenger on board. The ride is choppy, except on smooth roads. Bigger bumps feel and sound horrible. Very embarrassing to try to show off the cornering capability, only to hear the car rubbing on the road.

my XK8 is lowered using Mina in front and H&R on rear (got sweet deal from fellow forum member) - no issues with rubbing and only running 18" wheels so no harshness in ride that some have found running 20's

Hi guys, I have the opposite issue here. I have lowered springs (~20 mm, from J Nothelle) in my 2005 XKR (with original Brembo brakes and 20” XKR wheels). I would like to change them to OEM or OE or aftermarket new or used springs in original size. The car rides great with the lowered springs but in my country I can’t register it with such springs without some homologation documents from the manufacturer. As the springs were installed years ago such documents are long gone. I checked for springs in original size or lowered ones with proper documents attached and no luck. Any ideas? Maybe somebody willing to exchange his/her OEM/OE springs for mine sporty ones?

Had you posted this last year I would've sent you my OE springs from my XKR coupe. I now have lowered it using the Adamesh kit and am very happy with it. Looks like Charlie's car.

I think it's still possible to find new OE springs. A better solution would be to just move to a different county, or have it registered at a different county. The XKR at OE height just doesn't look right.

I plan on getting the Adamesh springs but I want to get my 18" Hydra wheels put on first with new rubber. The ride is already on the borderline for harshness for me, I don't want to make it worse. I'm chucking the CATS as well and repalcing all the bushings.

I was nose down with my car and replaced the springs with Lesjafors (sp) at original height. I was scrapping and bumping so I didn't lower the rear. My .02 TM

I still have my OEM front/rear springs from when I lowered her - but they had over 150000miles on them when I replaced them. You may want to try Dave Roche at DCR - he has both lowering and factory spec springs

Hi giandanielxk8, thanks for your reply. OEM and OE (at least front springs) are out of stock everywhere- aftermarket not existing to my knowledge. Adamesh fits but they don’t seem to have the proper homologation papers needed to register the car in Switzerland with such lowered springs. There is one set from Eibach and one from Mina Gallery- they both have proper homologation papers (the so called Gutachten in German)- still checking with them if these are compatible with my XKR. On the side I’m still not sure if I have the basic XKR or the R-Performance. Brakes are Jag Brembo, wheels 20” XKR. The technician from Jag UK classic car department claims that based on VIN my car has NO R Performance suspension. Whether it is or not R Performance seems to be crucial to choose proper springs.

Hi sklimii, thanks for info. Dave is already looking into this issue. I hope he will manage to find something.

i have the h&r springs front/rear, was already mounted on car when I bought it, so have no experience in how they act vs factory springs. I think the ride hight is spot on, wheels(stock 18 inch) line up perfectly with fender arches. firm suspension I'd say but not painful on normal roads, definitely not suitable for off-road...
Cheers!

I checked the H&R springs- they are 45 mm lower and unfortunately the limit in my country is 40 mm. I was also told by Jag specialist they only fit wheels up to 18” and mine are 20”.

Mine was lowered using Arden springs, UK agent at the time was Racing Green Cars who also fitted the Arden body kit etc. I don't know how much lower than stock it is but I have no problems with the 20" wheels
