Luggage Compartment Switch not working

Luggage Compartment Switch not working
The button on the luggage compartment isn't working (the button in the centre of the chrome strip). I have traced the wiring back from the button to near the security and locking module and I don't have a break and the button works OK.
The luggage compartment unlocks if I use the luggage compartment release on the key fob but if I unlock the car with the fob and then try and press the button it doesn't work. Same if I unlock it with the key in the door lock
The internal release by the steering wheel works as does the release where you put the key in the hole where the XKR is.
Everything points to it being a wiring problem from the button as it unlocks using fob etc. but as mentioned earlier checked that.
I haven't removed the module as hidden under the fuse box but other than checking connections into module (I have made sure they are pushed home) not sure anything else is repairable.
I am hoping its not that as understand they are expensive.
Any ideas much appreciated

I think I will check continuity with the trunk closed to be certain it isn't as WhiteXKR suggests.
RDMinor that is my fear and I am not sure if there is a way to check the S&LC module from what I see from JTIS pin 5 is taken to earth when you press the trunk switch button. Do you know if it's easy to take the module out (just the 2 visible bolts) as it is hidden under fuse tray?

WhiteXKR you were right it was a broken wire which oddly didnt show up when trunk open.
The cable covering was intact but conductor had broken. Very odd there were 4 cables in the sleeve but only one broken and no obvious physical damage.
I was able to feed another cable through plastic sleeving and solder to existing.
Many thanks
