Default Metalic sound

Hi Gents,

Any of you ever experienced a heavy metalic sound from the engine area, my engine has suddenly developed this noise that goes up and down with the revs and I cannot pin point it, thought perhaps it might be the water pump as it sort of seems to be comming from that area but then somtimes it sounds like a rattle.

Starting to think something big is going to happen everything runs fine and there is no noise when you start it except for the drone of metal.

I can't help you identify the sound, but other members may be better able to help out if you told us the the year of your car and the mileage. Also, a picture of your car with a scantily clad woman draped over the fender would be very helpful in identifying the cause of the sound.

Ok, assuming you have a pre-2003 model, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but ...

sounds like an exploded timing chain tensioner to me.

Do not start the engine again until you find out for sure. You could destroy it. You will need to remove each cam cover to inspect the tensioners.

Plan on pulling the belt off this weekend and listening to see if it is anything attched to that i.e water pump etc. then the right hand cam cover as that is where the noise seems to come from.

The car is a 1996 model VIN AR001837 with about 50K miles on the clock and no outstanding TSB's, appears to be one of things that seeems to have started for no reason, car was fine then the ECU caught fire, had that repaired and at the same time had the car serviced, comes back from the service with a slight metallic grinding noise that went away then nothing for about 3 week unitl get in start it up and it sounds like a meat grinder (no rattles) just a a very lound grinding noise.

As I have not attempted much on this car yet can anyone expalin how the belt tensioner comes off, looks like one bolt however, only have a picture to go by.

Sounds like cam tensioner for sure with your model year. Lets hope you are in luck and there is no serious damage
