Default Mini or temporary partial cover

I seem to recall seeing some company that manufactured covers for convertibles that were quickie install types for cases where the top was down and you were just stopping here and there for a few minutes and did not want to completely close the top. This small partial cover was quickly manually installed for those situations to protect the interior for those brief periods.

Does anyone know what I am talking about and are there any names/sources for this product?

Thanks,

Doug

I just found what I knew existing. It is called Sunbrella manufactured by Covercraft. Has anyone here tried this?

In reading the review on the AutoSport page it did not give it a raving review and I can understand why. Using Velcro to secure the cover??? Just use the roof and save the $84.00 + shipping. Gus’s review - Great idea needs improvement!

I am actually only a few miles from both California Car Covers and CoverCraft (CoverCraft also has a local outlet store). Maybe I'll browse by when I get the chance and see how these things work. It just seems easier while out doing errands and stuff to stick one of these things on rather than going through opening and closing the top.

I have the CalCover one. The back uses the same fasteners as the boot cover. Has elastic bands that attaches around the door handles, velcro around the side mirrors and wiper arms. Easy to use and saves use of the top mechanism.

Hey Lew--would you happen to have some pics showing how the thing goes on and how it looks?

Thanks,

Doug

Sorry Doug, I do not have any. Never thought about pix with the cover on it. If it ever gets warm again, I'll take some, but I guarantee it is very easy to use and keeps the sun off the interior in warm weather.

I would be interested in those pics also. I really want to get one of these quick covers so that mother nature's sky bombers " birds " will not shoot their loads into my car at work!! Happens every spring!!!

The used to be called "tonneau covers".

Every pampered MGB/TR4/TR250/TR6/XKE had one.

Makes the car look tres sportif.

You can probably find examples on fleabay to get an idea of what they look like.

Do you happen to have a link to that cover? Been searching but I must not be asking the correct thing on the site. Model # would be good too!!

Thanks

Default Practical?

Presumably, each time you use it you've got to get it out of the boot, install it, then later take it off, fold/roll it and replace it in the boot. Way too much fumbling around for a quick stop for my tastes, I'll just put up the top...

I know this isn't "cool" but last summer in the sweltering southwest my wife and I just kept a white sheet in the back seat. When we would stop we'd lean the seats forward and pull the sheet up over them. That way we wouldn't get 3rd degree burns when we sat back down (I have a black interior). It took 5 seconds to pull the sheet over the seats. Now that you mention it, though, this year I might sew some elastic loops onto the sheet to hook over the rear-view mirrors.

In fact, now that I think about it, I might sew up something that looks a little better. It could hook to the top of the back seat and when we got out of the car we could just grab the elastic loops and hook them over the mirrors. That would stretch it tight. Hmmm... something to contemplate for this weekend (as if I don't have enough projects going on already).

I'm never that much of a hurry that I can't take a couple of minutes to put it on. Taking it off and stowing it is less then 30 seconds. Saves wear and tear on the top and keeps the interior cool and protects against UV light. Not to even mention the mega pollen recently. I just throw it in the washer once a year.

Is it OK to leave top down for weeks at a time? If I am planning to use the car mostly with the top down I could save a lot of wear and tear on the pump and mechanics.

I very seldom have the top up during open air season.
