Default Mirror selection switch

2000 XK8 Convertable 70K

My mirror selection switch is frozen in the drivers side position. It worked a week ago and now won't budge. The drivers mirror works fine. I can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue but seem to remember somewhere on this site reading about a fuse. I found a fuse chart and can't seem to locate it. Any help would be appreciated (especially before I fork out $120+ for a switch!)
Thanks is advance

Is it the LH/RH mirror selector rocker switch (arrowed in red) in the Driver Door Switchpack that's stuck?

If so, it's likely to be a physical problem with the switch rather than an electrical issue.

The Driver Door Swtchpack controls the mirrors through the Driver Door Control Module. A harness link to the Passenger Door Control Module allows the Driver Door Switchpack to control the passenger mirror when the rocker switch is moved.

I had a bad experience taking a Driver Door Switchpack apart to try to fix a sticking window switch (arrowed in blue). Springs and contacts flew all over the place and I ended up getting a replacement switch! One member did report recently that his wife's nimble fingers succeeded in repairing his switch.

Graham,
Yes, that's it. I suspect you're right. However, I thought it odd how it worked fine one day, the next - frozen, with no movement whats so ever. Looks like I'm going to have to replace it. My wife also has nimble fingers, however, she'll ask to drive the car as payment. Avoiding that scenario is worth the $100+. Thanks again

Having a non-driving wife saves me many domestic arguments!

I've had remote mirror controls literally freeze up and refuse to operate when outside temps were in the single digits. Once the weather warmed up, full functionality magically returned. How cold is your weather right now?

Graham,

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the cold weather is causing this issue....

If it doesn't come back to life with warmer weather I noticed the whole switch unit (3 switches and wood trim) on ebay for around $100.....

Took my messed up drivers side window and mirror switch apart last week and as stated I got to enjoy figuring out where all the goodies inside my scattered switch internals used to go. I had already ordered a switch through eBay knowing that when someone says something can happen during a disassembly you can pretty much count on it. I wasn't disappointed.
Surprisingly the electrical contacts within the switch looked pretty clean but I guess not clean enough to make the joy stick work in all planes. I didn't have a 'frozen' mirror selector rocker issue but I'll guess that some small bit on the rocker (the rocker slides contacts through three detentes and consists of (4?) parts) decided it had lived long enough. Long short - look for a new switch on eBay before you rip into your switch. The switches are not inexpensive but if two people use the car adjusting mirrors becomes important. Once your new switch is in place (very easy install) take the old one apart and see how many goodies in it like to travel when set free.
I see you [Robert53] live in CT. Are you close to Essex? Maybe we are neighbors? Good luck with your switch.
