Guys: I recently purchased my first Jag--a 99 XK8 convertible. Previous owner did not have an electronic door opener for the key chain . Local dealer here in DC area has one available for $305. Seems a bit pricey. Is this something that can more economically be purchased on line? Any suggestions on where to look?

Since there were 2 or more different fob part numbers for each model year and you do not have one you need to ask a Jaguar dealer for the proper part number. With that in hand you can usually get the correct one from eBay for about $25.

If the dealer wants to charge big bucks to identify the correct fob it might be cheaper to buy all listed for that year and resell the ones that do not work. There is an active trade business in Jaguar fobs.

My car came without them. I bought two on eBay for $25 each and programmed them myself using instructions on this forum.

 

Check carefully on ebay, sometimes you can get new for the same price as used.
