Default Mostly convertible for sale

I can't help to post this question here.

I see most of the XKs listing for sale now are convertible and that cannot be a coincidence

Perhaps there are 2 reasons....
  1. 67.4% of all X100's produced were Convertible
  2. We are in Fall and have Winter ahead of us....!

Pk, very interesting. I'd have guessed that it was a higher % convertible. You learn something new each day! John

I am happy with my coupe knowing that it is technically rarer and there is 1 less thing to go wrong without the roof mechanism.

It is a consequence and not a coincidence. Prestige European motor manufacturers aim their convertibles at the lucrative US market. Total production of X100 (all variants) was 90616 of which 50048 were sold in the US. A hugely important market for Jaguar.

The Convertible X100 sold in much greater numbers there than the Coupe hence the comparative rarity of Coupes in the US. CarSalesBase publish sales by market and used to publish the split by body variant but I can't find the split figures now. From previous discussion on this topic, something in the order of a ratio of 3:1 for Convertible to Coupe sales in the US comes to mind.

You should trade it in for a Toyota Corolla if your main concern is having less things to go wrong.

It's because the coupes look better so no one wants to get rid of them.

It's because people can'r get out of the coupe to sell them. I'm only 6' but really struggle to get in and out with my roof down. Having size 12 feet doesn't help either

I had an F-type coupe. Beautiful car. Also an XK8 convertible. Got constant compliments from both, but more for the XK. Coupe was very beautiful, but the convertible is more fun, easier to get in and out of, and gets more compliments.
Comes down to what do you want, looks, convenience, or something everyone does not see everyday.
I sold my F-Type, kept the XK. Having fun going Topless.

Rod, made me laugh. I know what you mean.

How many times have you unlatched the hood getting out? :-)

Coupe comments useful. I've been looking for an 03-06 'vert. Someone contacted me to see if I would be interested in an 08XK coupe. Looks just gorgeous. Going to drive this week. May have a hard decision to make.
Guess I could solve the problem by keeping my 00 XK8 "rolling project car". If it doesn't run, crank up the stereo (XKR sound effects) and sit in the driveway w/ a couple of big shop fans blowing.
