Default Mr

I have just got hold of a 2002 jaguar XK8 convertible with genuine 17000 on the clock completely rust free.
the car is like a new car. Before I drive it I have put on a new battery. four new tyres. Engine oil and filter changed. Air filter and new double iridium spark plugs.
the spark plugs I took out were original jaguar and showed signs that the car had hardly been used. Coupled with the crystal clear engine oil I took out.
the car drives like a new car with silky gear shift.
Should I change gearbox oil because of age bearing in mind it offers no problem.
I do not really want the car and will just garage it.

Gearbox will be fine with the existing fluid. I would suggest that you change it in another 50k miles but it doesn't sounds as if it's going to see that mileage.

The gearbox will be fine if its full of fluid ...but how do you know until you check? same goes for the back axle...

Sounds like you've made a good find.

IMO, change all fluids - brake fluid, coolant and those already mentioned. You then have set a baseline for future periodic maintenance.

Plugs on the XK8 are good for 100K according to Jaguar's schedule of maintenance.

I imagine that a few drives will change your mind about not really wanting it

Press the sport button for a real ride ...Normally it starts in second but with the sport button down its starts in first for a rocket mode ...then you will love it ....

Low mileage can be a blessing and a curse. Most running parts will be like new, but extended periods without driving comes with its own set of issues, like why the car remained parked so long. Could be a collector’s car or from the estate of a long-deceased owner. Keep your checkbook handy. Good luck!
