Wink Mr. celtickaro - headlamp fogging and 'plate' under the engine missing

Dear Jaguar owners,
I hope all had a great Thanksgiving, I did.
This is my first forum, because I could not find how to use this site.
I live in California, city of Walnut. About two months ago my wife and I purchased 2000 XK8 with 62500 miles. I took to my mechanic for a oil change also look the car all over, the flat metal plate under the engine is missing (is that important?), also I have noticed driver side front headlamp, gets fogged up after rain or car wash, any idea, can any one could send me a lead what to do?
I really appreciated so much.

This should be posted under modern xk8/xkr that way you'll actually get a response. This section is for meet-ups and drives. Fogging of the light is common there is a vent kit you can order from Jaguar but it may be that the gasket around the light has failed and the lights are a huge pain to remove and replace (they have a lower center attach point that is a bitch to get to). The flat metal plate isn't ringing a bell, can you send a picture of what you mean? Someone else may know where this is.

Welcome to the forum Mr. celtickaro,

I've moved your question from Western US - AK CA NV OR UT HI WA ID to XK8/XKR forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

I am thinking that the flat metal plate must be the "plastic" engine cover that shields the engine from road debris, etc? They commonly get ripped off by curbs, etc. Most likely still available, and don't forget to order the fasteners to hold it on! As stated, there is a vent "fix" for the headlamp fogging. It is probably listed in the Tips or Factory Bulletins section at the forward of this group (XK8/XKR). You will also find a huge number of useful tips to fix the normal niggles you may come across! The headlamps really aren't that bad to remove. Be sure to tape off the area at the bumper to protect the paint before you extract the unit. The biggest pain is probably the headlamp washer. The glass and rubber seal are available separately, if needed, but they aren't cheap.

Just checked for that bulletin. Go to the posts, look for:" Sticky: Do It Yourself XK8 and XKR"... scroll down a ways to find "Headlamp Condensation" for more info! This sight is amazing! You will be extremely glad you found us! Lots of info here. Enjoy your new toy!

The parts you are probably missing are Undertray and left and right wind deflector. The best price I could find was at jaguarclevend.com.

I actually jut removed the glass headlight lens to paint the inside and I found when I removed the rubber gasket, that the lens had actually pulled away from the plastic shroud on the inner corners. Even before I started removing. I figure this is where our lights are failing and allowing water to get in. Both lenses were the same.
And as for that darn lower bolt, one of mine was missing, with no issues so I didn't even try to replace them. The tapped part was missing on bottom of lens.

Do you mean the cross brace under the engine?

This should help on the headlight condensation

As for the X brace under the car (if that is what you are talking about) yes it is important.
