Default My 1998 XK8 rescue

Hullo, l recently rescued a 1999 XK8, going through it to get it running ive found it has a dropped valve seat on #2.

Seeing whats happened to others im thinking it got hot at some point probably water pump and this is the result.

l dont have endless funds so its not going to be a money no object repair so be gentle with me, this is what im thinking;
lve brought a timing chain kit with WP, sprockets the whole 9 yards.
Working on a deal for 2 heads, ive read whats been written, makes sense.
lve brought a top end gasket set
l know ive got to spend $150us on the right cam lock set for timing
lm getting to live with the idea of a 250UKP hose set.

............have i missed anything?
Apart from that its a great car. lt has the hood latch hose issue and the ABS module issue apart from that the only things i can find that dont work are the passenger seat back and forth, and the drivers mirror up and down, which is just as well i suppose.

Default Fuel lines

ls there a way to disconnect the fuel lines without special tools.

When i start thinking about poking things with picks and screwdrivers, experience has told me its time to ask for help................................

I have the cam tool set if you are looking for one

The fuel line comes apart with the cheap plastic release set from any auto parts store.

A while back I posted for sale a bunch of 4.0 top end seals still in OEM packages. I got them in a parts lot I bought. I still have about 90% of them and will let them go cheap if they will help you.

Good luck with the rebuild.

aaaaaaaaah thats the problem, anything beyond a screwdriver and set spanners is special around here l borrowed some good ones, thats not a job for screwdrivers, however well intentioned.

Yes (if the price is right) if they look something like the first pic, no thanks to anything like the second.

Thanks for the heads up, due to the budget ive decided to only go Jag for the head gaskets, the rest i will use aftermarket.

Here is the set I have used many times, original from Jag, except I replaced the cheap bolts with SS socket heads, and had a piece welded onto the setting wrench for additional strength.
I don't have the VVT wind back tool, but have never had to use it. The new tensioners will come with pins in them, and I use a screwdriver instead of the wedges which always seem to slip out..
$ 140 shipped in the US.

PROGRESS!!

l had forgotten how much i dont like really leaning on stuff hard, i like to ease into it. lm happy its all off. l seems all LOL, all i need on top of gaskets, cam tensioners etc is one cylinder head. lm very pleased though, i managed to only break 3 of the 8 exhaust studs, fortuanly due to clever design there is plenty of meat left, so when i have some more O2 for the blue spanner im sure with the help of Mole grips they will come out

l also did some cleaning, i dont think ive ever cleaned the inside or outside of anything that doesnt work, rarely clean the outside of my daily, must be love. Good old saddle soap, the odd thing is, it was a woman owner

Next, clean all surfaces, give the good head valves a touch up and wait for parts.

Happy with that.

LOL, that strikes me as a comment from a guy that doesn't get out much. Most women treat their car like a purse, the only difference is that they can put more crap in a car.

My mother's first Mercedes was a lovely SL, and it got washed once a year (when she had the oil changed). I sold it for her (which is fair since I bought it) and it was... well, she never cleaned the seats either.

And that's not being sexist, as many men don't clean the interiors of their cars all that well either.

Anywho... looks like you are making good progress, congrats on getting those broken bolts out! BTW, I was in Vancouver once, very nice city, nice people.

Doesn't get out much? Oh dear. No sport, just a guy that doesn't date slobs.

Thats the bit that worried me the most done. 20x moments of expecting stuff to go horribly wrong.

After the head bolts i covered it up and called it a day, to let the sphincter recover

Oh happy days, oh happy days.

No offense meant... I was trying to figure out a better way to phrase it, and obviously failed.

Doh! Face plant.
