Default My XK8 is boring

After 6 months in cold storage, I was out to the garage to change the oil and get the XK8 ready for spring, finally.

Oil change, took about a 1/2 hour and then the moment of truth. Quick prayer to the gods of Jaguar and turned the key.

She fired right up! settled into a silky smooth idle. No lights, no codes, no coolant smell. I dropped the top, no green shower, and went for a brisk 30km trip around the block. The suspension works perfectly, not even a squeak or rattle to be heard. She pulled from 0-120mph with a respectable flourish and continued to run flawlessly the entire trip. Even the CD player didn't skip!

So where's the drama? Am I doing something wrong?

(knock on veneer, I hope I didn't jinx myself, I love this car!)

Jeff, you are officially now on my nerves. LOL
It must have been to cold for the gremlins to come out this winter.
Good for you.

It's just lulling you into a false sense of security.

Me too.

A properly maintained car will always give less trouble than one that is ignored.

You reap what you sew. Enjoy!!!!

I will remain smug right up to the point she explodes. Took me two winters to get to this point and I'm looking forward to a long summer of trouble free cruising. But the OSB2 reader is in the glove box just in case.

Yep. Mine did that to me!
Got it started and used it all last week without a hitch, then on Friday afternoon the brake light switch decided to have a hissy fit.
That being said, these cars are so much fun that these interesting "character traits" are bearable.

I'll gladly take that flavor of "boring" for the duration of the time we keep my wife's XK8 in our stable....

Enjoy!

Started using mine again after a few months and I too have had the dreaded 'Check Rear Lights' amber warning message appear! Changed all rear bulbs (except centre led line) & cleaned all contacts, checked battery grounds, wiggled brake peddle & brake light switch and still it comes on after a few miles!!!

Drop her off in November, then I will have lots of time.
I'm 10km past the middle of nowhere, third igloo on the left. (the one with the garage)

Jeff,

Twenty eight years ago I had a thought: "There isn't enough adversity in my life". After the almost three decades of continuous tumult, chaos, divorce, company bankruptcies and "outrageous fortune" that followed, I will NEVER, EVER, EVER utter words such as those again!

Go wash your mouth out with soap.

Trust me.

;-)

Many, many years ago when I was a poor student and had scraped/begged/borrowed/stolen enough money to buy my first very second hand car, of which I was tremendously proud, I was working on it when my older wiser neighbour came over to offer his advice . He looked it over from front to back and top to bottom and said "I'd stick to the bus routes if I were you".

I just had the same experience with my XKR. It sat from October to April. I put a new battery in, it fired right up, with no problems. Now I just need an inspection sticker.

??? Aren't ALL XKs like that? I've never had an inkling of problem with either of mine. Well, except for replacing brake pads and the like...
